Neither do Porcupine Tree but that doesn't diminish their live capabilities. Watching live music and making the effort of going out there to watch bands playing live is almost the last bastion of being a fan in an age of digital remoteness and I have seen enough bands in my time to differentiate between a band going through the motions to actually enjoying themselves on stage.

If a band can sound as good live or even better than their studio output then I appreciate them even more and know that all the studio trickery in the world won't hide a bands stage show and Foals were superb live.

I couldn't give 2 craps if they didn't dance around like loons (but FYI lead singer/guitarist Yannis stagedived from his P.A around 15 foot high when I saw them on their warm up tour and again still playing his guitar into a 1,000+ crowd this week when I watched them again). I just want to see a band that care as much about playing live than sitting around in a studio.

I am immensely proud of the fact that by the middle of next week I will have attended 5 live gigs in the space of 3 weeks and regardless of the fact that some of them are not known at all, I am still out there supporting bands and enjoying myself.

My advice? bollocks to hearsay and get out there and go see some live music.

Equinox

Not much of a "concert" but im thinking of going to an equinox ceremony in Tecate mexico. Where the elders that are the memory of diferent traditional native tribes gather to share the word, dance and sweatlodge ceremony to anyone who comes (this usually atracts people from all over the world). Making this a 4 day "festival" where what you hear mostly is A big drum.

When I saw them, the show was great fun. Loads of energy on stage, several crowd surfs, great lighting. One of the best gigs I've been to.

Aesop Rock w/Rob Sonic & DJ Big Wiz | Observatory

Considering this one. Also you electronica people in the area ALT-J will be playing a few days later. Aesop Rock gets alot of love on the site so i've been listening and would like to see the live presentation.

Just bought tickets to see Acid Mothers Temple in May. I'm turning 21 in a month, so I can actually go to 21+ venues. This'll be my first concert of an artist I actually want to go see.

Going with my girlfriend. It's their first time coming to Seattle, and The Neptune Theater is a fantastic venue.

21+ venues because of alcohol consumption?

Definitely great to celebrate it with an AMT concert! I've been wondering how they'd put on a performance. Happy birthday indeed.

Just got tickets to see The Gaslight Anthem/The Hold Steady on Memorial Day weekend. Super excited.

Also The National on May 17th.

Sparky 03-25-2013 06:30 PM

saw "local natives" over the weekend.
oh man i dunno. I try to be a hipster to the best of my abilities but i just couldn't muster it up for this show, fortunately the ticket was free.

ladyislingering 03-27-2013 06:28 PM

Ki and I are going to see Sparks next month.

They are in the US right now. They're coming to Seattle on the 22nd of April. A lot of the US shows have already sold out.

****. I'm on the east coast:(

LoathsomePete 03-28-2013 08:57 AM

If I can get my time machine to work I'm going back to March 27, 2013 so I can see Clutch, but most likely I'll just have to settle for Lucero on April 10th. A friend of mine's band is opening for them, so it's a pretty big deal for him and I want to be there to support a friend, plus I actually like Lucero, even if their last few albums have been ass.

GWAR is also playing in town on the 14th and considering I've missed their last two performances here, I should probably go to this one.

Streetlight Manifesto is also playing here on June 28th and I've heard they put on a killer show, plus it will (hopefully) give me some kind of idea when The Hands That Thieve comes out.

Psy-Fi 03-29-2013 05:43 PM

The Stranglers are doing a short US tour in June (Detroit, NYC, Boston, Philly, Chicago and Long Beach.)
Haven't seen them in 20 some odd years and they rarely tour in the states any more, so it'll be a must-see for me.

Janszoon 03-29-2013 06:19 PM

Hopefully going to see O'Death in a couple weeks. We'll see.

jackhammer 03-29-2013 06:25 PM

I saw Gojira last week and they were immense (as expected) even though the sound wasn't all that, however Ghost were just embarrassing. Just because they wear hoods over their heads and put on a half decent stage show doesn't detract from the fact that the generic Heavy Metal they play has been heard a thousand times before and played far better too in the past.

Yep. Every concert I've wanted to go to has been 21+ because of that (I missed seeing the Raincoats a while back because of it) so it'll be nice to finally have that restriction lifted. Hopefully Acid Mothers temple put on a good show! I'm not the biggest fan or anything but I think they are very cool and I'm very excited!

ThePhanastasio 04-02-2013 10:20 PM

Well, Styx was announced as one of the free concerts for my town's summer motion, so I will probably be checking that cheese out. They've still got at least 3 bands to announce, too. One will definitely be a mainstream country act, so I'll not be checking that out, most likely.

I also hate even to say this, but my little sister is the biggest "Directioner" in the world, and her birthday is May 14th. One Direction is in concert in Columbus in June. Getting her tickets seems like something I will probably do, and I will almost certainly be forced to go to said concert.

Zebras 04-03-2013 03:24 PM

Going to see Sigur Ros tonight.

I'm going to see Steve Reich at the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art in May. Pretty damned excited for this one.

Psy-Fi 04-04-2013 09:11 AM

Just got tickets to see Vanilla Fudge in a small restaurant/club setting.
3 of the original 4 members ( Mark Stein, Vince Martell, and Carmine Appice) with Pete Bremy on bass for Tim Bogert who has retired from touring.
Should be interesting!

Mojo 04-04-2013 09:24 AM

^^

I thought Vanilla Fudge split up actually. Now I see they actually did announce a 'farewell' tour but didn't go through with it. Also, that website is the worst website in the history of websites!

Jealous. I missed them when they came through the UK recently. They didnt come to my neck of the woods but I completely missed the announcement of their dates anyway, and it had already sold out by the time I was aware of it.

Hahaha, what the hell, seriously.

I've been so into them lately. Weird to even see that they're still around.

I'm not gonna lie, news of this caused a minor trouser malfunction.

Tomorrow.

I can't wait. I'm ready to be be tripped out.

ZiggyStardust 04-09-2013 11:38 PM

Might be going to Black Sabbath in Sheffield in December, all depends on how expensive the tickets are, hope they're not like the stones ;)

LoathsomePete 04-11-2013 09:33 AM

Saw Lucero last night, and while they're certainly not a bucket list band for me, they still put on a killer show. I heard they brought in their own sound guy, and that made all the difference because the venue has a habit of hiring random people off the street to work the soundboard which results in some truly horrible production.

Key 04-11-2013 12:08 PM

Paul McCartney is playing at Safeco Field here. It's the first time a music act has performed at Safeco since it's primarily a baseball field. Thinking of going if the tickets aren't too expensive.

cgw 04-15-2013 05:05 AM

Green Day finally made it here last week. It was a long cold quiet winter around here. Bob Seger coming up.

jackhammer 04-15-2013 05:04 PM

Tickets bought tonight for Black Sabbath in December before they sell out. Who cares how old they are? This is one to definitely tick off my bucket list of bands to see before I pop off. Standing tickets too :)

Clutch are only doing 4 dates over here in July and none are local but really want to see them so I am looking into the London gig even though a Thursday night is not ideal regarding work.

BastardofYoung 04-15-2013 06:59 PM

I love what I have heard from Clutch, but everything I have heard live by them is a huge let down.

I have had quite a few friends, who love Clutch all come back and tell me they were the most boring live band they had ever seen.

CrazyVegn 04-16-2013 01:10 PM

I've never been to a concert before, but have always wanted to meet Stevie Wonder. Besides, I prefer the polished, sound-perfected original on a CD. It is how you are supposed to hear it.

LoathsomePete 04-16-2013 01:27 PM

Built to Spill is playing next Thursday and I know a few people who are going so I'll probably tag along to that. Not the biggest fan of them so this is more a chance to hang out with people than to actually see music I like performed live, which seems to often be the case here. Oh well, at least I have Streetlight Manifesto to look forward to at the end of June.

M'ERA LUNA FESTIVAL 2013 :( I want to get there.....

Psy-Fi 04-16-2013 03:38 PM

Just got front row center to see Jai Johanny Johanson (also known as 'Jaimoe') drummer and founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, playing with his Jazz band called 'Jaimoe's Jasssz Band'.
The band is only performing 5 shows on the east coast and one in Switzerland.
Looking forward to it!

Just got tickets to see Peter Frampton's Guitar Circus. He will have several guests playing with him during the tour (B.B. King, Robert Cray, Sonny Landreth, and other guests) Sonny Landreth is opening the show I will be seeing. Just saw Sonny a couple of weeks ago (for the second time) but he's so incredible it'll be a pleasure to see him again!
This will be my first time seeing Peter Frampton.

I saw Green Day the other day in Berkeley. It was so much fun. They really know how to entertain a crowd. Although they played too much new material for my taste. It was still great and I got to see a good band play outside of the campus :D
