Just saw Sonny a couple of weeks ago (for the second time) but he's so incredible it'll be a pleasure to see him again!
This will be my first time seeing Peter Frampton.

They are booked here this summer. I could take or leave Frampton, but am wondering if it is worth it to see Robert Cray? (I don't think BB will be on the bill)

hopefully i'm going to download festival in UK mainly for Iron Maiden and Motorhead

I've never seen Robert Cray perform live, so I can't give you an opinion on his live show. He's certainly an accomplished player, but I've never found him to be particularly interesting to my ears.
I don't care much for Peter Frampton's mid 70's pop/rock material, so I'm hoping he'll stick to playing more of his blues/rock stuff.

I'm lucky enough to live in Milwaukee Wisconsin, so Summerfest is a must go every year. I'm hoping to get tickets to Rush on the 4th of July. and Heart and John Bonom (Led Zep reunion band) are coming to Wisconsin's state fair. so those are big ones on my calendar.

Psy-Fi 04-24-2013 01:14 AM

Just got tickets to see George Thorogood & Buddy Guy performing together.
I've seen both of them play live before but this will be my first time seeing them together.
I'm guessing they will have a jam session together at some point in the show.
It should be an interesting combo!

Wow, seriously. I really don't have much interest in seeing George thoroughgood, but I've seen Buddy Guy and he's insane live. I can imagine the two together will be pretty stellar.

Psy-Fi 04-24-2013 02:37 AM

^ I saw George Thorogood in the early 80's and he put on a great show (haven't seen him since.)
I've seen Buddy Guy 3 times in the past 20 years and you're right on the mark about him putting on a fantastic show.
All 3 times I've seen him he's been incredible!

I'm not sure if they are playing together anywhere else.
Quinn Sullivan is also appearing with them (I've only recently heard of him.)

Thom Yorke's Atoms For Peace is coming to Chicago so hopefully I make it to that !

It's shaping up to be a good year for shows in my area.
I just got tickets to see Steve Winwood with The Allman Brothers Band.
I'm hoping Steve plays a lot of Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, and Blind Faith songs.
There should be some great jamming between them at some point in the show.

Based on the two's reputation on the site, this is on my radar. I have been enjoying live hip hop more and more as I age. Plus the venue is small and its nice to meet and greet with people after.

Is this a festival that celebrates The Roots? Or is it just coincidence that the festival and the band names are slightly similar?

Attended a Prog Rock/Metal fest at the weekend and it was probably the worst 'Festival' I have ever attended. Whilst I have the utmost respect for the promoter who I talked to over the weekend, Holding it at a nightclub where there was no draught beers, only 6 beers available in plastic 330ml bottles (wtf?) at £4.50 a throw or 2 shots of Jim Beam for £12 (no mixers), a bad sound, a perpetually dark setting and an audience where me and my mate at 40 and 41 respectively were amongst the youngest at a magnificent crowd of around 300. Yes that is 300 and you have the most boring festival I have ever been to.

Threshold were really damn good but due to the lack of atmosphere, the vocalist had to get into the crowd and inject some atmosphere before closing the show at the granddad time of 9.30 PM (so the chavs could get in and tear the place up for a normal nightclub time) on Saturday!

We found a local Rock bar later where I was getting chatted up by a rather nice South African lady (good times) before a man sat next to us who turned to be her boyfriend whereupon I left her to my friend to get rid of whilst I smoked lots of cigarettes (bad times).

A far cry from my return to Bloodstock in August after a 2 year absence (I Hope) with this line up thus far:
Band Line Up - 2013 - Bloodstock Heavy metal festival band line and metal band Biographies.

Also hoping to get to a local family friendly festival that is in a couple of weeks with Bill Bailey headlining on the Sunday with Dreadzone and Lucy Rose which is well worth the day pass of £43 and as it's a 30 minute walk it means no taxi's, hotels and other expenses.

Also lined up is Fat Freddy's Drop in October at a weekend date in London which means an epic weekend should be in order, Damnation Fest in November (Carcass and Crippled Black Phoenix for starters) and Black Sabbath in December means that the year should end on a good note (Oh and Killing Joke/ The Mission and Fields of the Nephilim four days earlier in the same week as Sabbath).

I waited through the long cold winter for the summer concert season. Now the schedules are out and there is basically no one I am really interested in coming to the area.

I noticed that London, Ontario seems to get a lot of shows. London is not that big of a city. Am I missing something, or do they just have active promoters.

What festival was that Jackhammer?

Slayers headline spot at Bloodstock must surely be vacant now? Are they still playing? And have you heard Grifter before? They are worth a watch.

I dont have a Damnation ticket yet but I'm hoping to probably catch you again there this year. I love CBP and obviously seeing Carcass is an opportunity I don't wanna miss!

It was called Celebr8.2.

Slayers spot is still on as Gary Holt (Exodus) filled in for Hanneman the last time I saw them and I don't see that changing and Slayer already have a drummer in place anyhow but it's not quite the same :(

As for Grifter I caught them a couple of years back at an after party gig after seeing Nebula down in Camden (which itself was a lucky gig to see as we sat in the Camden Underworld drinking on the Friday getting ready for Lamb Of God on the Saturday when we we got tickets for Nebula that day of the gig). Grifter were quite decent.

Obviously Carcass are a different entity to when I saw them way back when but CBP will be well worth it. This time we will be on time and we will sink a few beers if you are there :)

Mojo 05-24-2013 04:29 AM

Ah ok, had Hanneman not been touring with them before he died? I knew he was ill but didn't know that if thats the case. It's been a few years since I last saw them now, when he was healthy.

I'm hoping to go to and see Bonobo tonight at the stunningly beautiful Sage, Gateshead and I'm also hoping to get a day ticket sorted to the Saturday of Download Festival to see Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age, Motorhead, Mastodon & Black Moth!

Second one is called Zwarte Cross. Bands I plan to see on Zwarte Cross are: Shantel, Will and the People, Dragonforce, Kees van Hondt, de Speeldoos and Bloodhound Gang

Plankton 05-28-2013 11:10 AM

GF got me tix to see Kidd Rock on my birthday in Aug. I'm not a huge fan, but I've never seen his act, and I hear it's quite good, so off we go... in August that is.

yay.

Far From California 05-30-2013 05:16 PM

I'll be going to Athfest in a couple of weeks (music festival in Athens, Georgia) and i'll be seeing The Whigs and Cracker

Festivals

I'm getting really excited for Download Festival in two weeks! Praying that it doesn't rain like it did last year, the mug was like glue! Watching Metallica and Black Sabbath made it all worth while!

Are you going to any festivals this year? What do you think is the best festival is?

Joekie 05-31-2013 08:35 AM

Oh Download! I've heard of that one too. That's in the UK right? I would love to see Metallica. Haven't seen them live yet. I'm going to Zwarte Cross as mentioned above. But I don't think that's the best festival. I find it hard to choose my favourite festival as there are a lot of festivals that have good things going for them and as I haven't been to a lot of festivals that I've heard are pretty good.

So European festivals that are still on my list of festivals to visit: Roskilde, RockWerchter, Sziget, Exit.

My favourite festival at the moment is a tie between the Lowlands Festival and Eurosonic.
I've also been to Pinkpop (Landgraaf, the Netherlands), but I didn't really like it. Eurosonic is a festival in January or February in Groningen (the Netherlands) that's all about discovering new European talent. The venues where bands are playing are great: theatres, musea, churches and cafes. The best thing about it is that you really get to see upcoming talent, you can enjoy music the whole day through and the atmosphere is great and you can sleep in a real bed as there is no camping.

My other favourite is Lowlands in Biddinghuizen, The Netherlands. The line-up is almost always good. And there's always so much to do besides the music. There's theatre, comedians, dance, politics, university lectures, movies. And there are so many different musical styles represented on the festival that it's a great mix of people coming to the festival. And everyone is nice and friendly to each other. You can expect to be hugged with the message that you have to pass this hug on to three strangers and other things like that. At the Lowlands Festival you are never alone. :)

cmaggard 05-31-2013 03:10 PM

Jamey Johnson. Not really a concert but he is playing a festival in Pineville KY

wexy 06-02-2013 11:16 AM

The National and Youth Lagoon on Wednesday at Barclay's Center

katsy 06-02-2013 03:33 PM

Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket

and later in the year, September, I will be seeing Alt-J

HazelRose 06-04-2013 05:11 AM

I'm going to Download festival in under two weeks! woohoo then going to see Black Sabbath in December at the O2 yay!

Mojo 06-04-2013 07:40 AM

I don't think I had bought my ticket for Download the last time I posted about it in here but I have now. Just for the day rather than the weekend, but I am beyond excited to see Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age, Motorhead and Mastodon. There is another band or two on early in the day I fancy checking out as well.

Got a ticket to see Dick Dale at a club on the beach in July. Seems like the most appropriate location and time of the year to see and hear some great surf guitar music!

I was perusing through the local weekly paper seeing if there were any upcoming shows I'd like to see and one caught my eye.

Captured! By Robots

http://www2.sk-static.com/images/med...sts/97755/col6

It's basically an animatronic band with one human member and it's a mixture of rock and comedy. They're playing at possibly the biggest douchebag hipster club so I'm almost more interested in just going to see the crowd's reactions.
