Belle and Sebastian tonight, because they're a band I like that my parents also like. I would be seeing Gilberto Gil on Sunday, but I'm visiting relatives for Passover.

I'm seeing Shabazz Palaces tonight. It's my first rap concert and I know maybe two songs by them. Should be an interesting evening. I saw Cherry Glazerr last night with a great doomy/psychedelic/post-punk band called Sunflower Bean and another band that had more of a toughened Beach Boys vibe that I can't remember the name of. Great ****ing show, just felt pretty dreggish showing up obviously drunk and high off my ass at what I didn't know was an all-ages show. I think some girl tried to pick-pocket me, or did, and then someone got my **** back for me. Never had that happen before.
|
Seeing Belle & Sebastian again playing with an Orchestra, my mate won free tickets too so it's especially sweet. Seeing Swans the next day. Quite the juxtaposition. Two of my favourite bands and the perfect way to celebrate my exams ending.

Recently went to see Danny Brown for the second time. However, half way through his set he had a cup of plastic water thrown at him (not by me) and he walked off. He didn't come back out either.
Watch Danny Brown get a drink thrown at him in Glasgow He played a batch of new stuff, so I reckon there's a new record on the way. Going to see American Football and This Town Needs Guns at the same venue in May. Super excited as I don't think American Football have played shows in my musical lifetime (i.e. the time I've been invested in music) and TTNG, at least before they replaced their vocalist, were one of the best new acts of the last couple years. Couldn't have asked for a better support act. |
Almost went to that Danny Brown show, turned out for the best that I didn't!
|
You saved your time.
Support acts were pretty decent, two grime MC's. Got the crowd going. Admittedly is was comprised almost solely of neds. Saw Danny at the Arches last February and he was really good. Charismatic, energetic and played a good selection of his most fitting songs - no use in playing Party All the Time and dampening the atmosphere - but obviously despite being a man who's abused his body with more drugs than bares thought, a plastic cup of water was enough for him to want to break down. Strange. I don't think anyone has any right to throw anything at a performer, but I don't feel that action justified Danny's decision to walk out on a room of well paying, respectful fans who had paid money to see him perform. |
Who was supporting Danny? Guessing Kitty isn't with him for that no more.
|
Mumdance: - plays a lot of wonky experimental grime electronica.
Riko Dan: - a grime MC who loves smiling. No idea what he was saying most of the time and no idea who he was/is. Was decent at getting the crowd warmed up though. There was another grime MC who I didn't get a name for. He was advertised as a special guest. Nobody seemed to know who he was. I know Danny has always been an outspoken backer of the genre so I see why he's giving these guys exposure. Last time I saw him, Vic Mensa was supporting. No idea who Kitty is, my man. |
****, Mumdance is excellent.
|
Guess I'm seeing D'Angelo & the Vanguard in June now. My life's the illest.
|
Tedeschi Trucks in June. I'll be going with my daughter and my Dad. This will be a first for all of us going to a concert together, so it's gonna be kind of special.

If all goes well I'll be seeing Brand New on 1st June in Manchester. Tickets go on sale in 12 and a half minutes and counting
|
Did you manage to get one? All of my friends are booting off on Twitter cos Seetickets are abysmal and hardly anyone managed to get one. This is the first Brand New tour in years that I haven't bothered to go to, just because the Manchester date clashes with a gig I'm already attending and I couldn't be bothered travelling to London or Birmingham.
After a bit of a drought, I have quite a few shows coming up.. In May: Swervedriver in Manchester (though I'm yet to get a ticket for this yet) Pity Sex in Liverpool Liverpool sound city festival - I plan to see Swans, the Flaming Lips, Belle and Sebastian, Single Mothers, Thurston Moore, Allusondrugs, F*cked up, Honeyblood, Dum Dum Girls, Bad Breeding, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Stealing Sheep, The Cribs, Evian Christ, Fat Whites, Dutch Uncles, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and a few other bands that I can't remember right now. Babes in Toyland in Manchester De la Soul in Liverpool. Then in June I have Earth in Liverpool and Sun Kil Moon in Leeds. Then in July I have Alkaline Trio/Strung Out in Liverpool. Then September is Electric Picnic in Ireland just outside of Dublin.. So far the line up is great, off the top of my head I'll be seeing Jurassic 5, Alvvays, Ride, Hot Chip, The War on Drugs, Belle and Sebastian (again!), Manic Street Preachers, Low, Chvrches, Battles, Future Islands and Metz.. with more tba. Pretty good run! |
