I guess I'm just used to it. Tons of other bands/artists from California. Woodstock bitches!

ADELE, where are you? Anyway, in regards to what you said in the thread that got closed:

You are obviously missing the point. I couldn't care less where the music originated. If it is good, it shouldn't matter. So will you stop being a douchecake now? Thanks.

Taking a look at my music collection I can say its about 50/50 with some other than UK/US artists to balance out the mix, but I really think the prize has to go to the Brits. They took music that originated out of our culture and expanded & perfected it. The only thing we in the US can really lay a valid claim to is hip hop and jazz, and well, considering the stagnancy of hip hop in the US, the UK might take that away from us as well.

the only real British music i listen to with any regularity is new wave stuffs, kind of stopped listening to indie music altogether (and only bits and pieces of prog).

i will say that Americans definitely have the upper hand at jazz (with the notable exception of John McLaughlin, and he went soft after a while too).

50's goes to the US
60's goes to the UK
70's goes to the UK
80's goes to the UK
90's goes to the US
and the noughties go to Europe and Japan.

Basically nowadays neither the UK or the US have big scenes that are consistently making good music.

i'd say they were pretty evenly matched during this era. while Britain had bigger bands to come out at the time, America contributed significantly to get the psych/garage ball rolling. not to mention '60s jazz, motown, southern rock, and Beefheart which all occurred almost wholly in America.

i suppose the birth of prog certainly changed stuff.
