Chill and summery.

Of Monsters and Men - Beneath the Skin

I would kill to see these guys in concert.

Psy-Fi 05-06-2016 06:53 AM

Some recent instrumental heavy psych/stoner rock from France...

Jagannatha - Jagannatha (2016)

Hand that Heals / Hand that Bites by We Will Fail

oh boy. so her last album, Verstorung was one of my absolute favorites of 2014, and now she's released this double album that I only just heard about today. I'm just about to start streaming it here and holy hell im excited. Verstorung still gets a great deal of play time from me, and it's every bit as mesmerizing as my first listen so I've got high hopes here.

Zhanteimi 05-06-2016 04:02 PM

Sun Kil Moon - Benji
http://s3.amazonaws.com/quietus_prod...1392821304.jpg
One of the few albums that has made me cry.

Though I kept to myself, and for the most part was pretty coy
I once got baited into clocking some undeserving boy
Out on the elementary school playground
I threw a punch that caught him off-guard and knocked him down

And when I walked away, the kids were cheering
And though I grinned, deep inside I was hurting
But not nearly as much as I'd hurt him
He stood up, his glasses broken and his face was red

And I was never a schoolyard bully
It was only one incident and it has always eaten at me
I was never a young schoolyard bully
And wherever you are, that poor kid, I'm so sorry

sweetSmoke 05-06-2016 04:33 PM

Be my baby, the very best of the Ronettes

Phil Spector is pure genious. I'm not a big fan of Motown girl groups, but the sound is incredible.

Zhanteimi 05-06-2016 04:53 PM

Bitchin Bajas - Bitchitronics
https://beatsperminute.com/wp-conten...chitronics.jpg
Not at all what I was expecting. I thought this would be frenetic and punky, not soothing and melodic.

Justthefacts 05-06-2016 05:05 PM

^ @mordwyr regarding Benji: Carissa is one of the best songs I've ever heard. The feels.

I queued these today on Spotify:

This is growing on me. Hard. Could end up being one of my favorites this year. He also puts on an illustrious live show. His most banger beats end up on this record, and if you fancy his soul-crushing croon, you'll love it. His longest record to date as well.

Death Grips | Bottomless Pit
I already had this leaked to my ITunes but I find it easier saved to my Spotify. It blew my mind the first few times I heard it, but I haven't picked it up since. I don't know what this means, but I'm gonna listen to it again today. It's good though, I think.

Anohni | Hopelessness
Yet to hear this, but from what Pitchfork and various other professional critics have said, it's supposedly worth listening too. I loved I Am A Bird Now when she was still with the Johnson's. That voice though is the best instrument in whatever music she does.

Never fleshed out any of their other records in their back catalogue, but NME gave it a 5/5 so I must listen to it. I'm a slave to a few music critics, got a problem with that?

Depeche Mode - Black Celebration
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/515leFvfIcL.jpg
First listen. Really enjoyed it, though perhaps not as much as Violator.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 05-06-2016 05:39 PM

@JTF lol downloaded all of those same albums today, yay for us Pitchforkers.

Zhanteimi 05-06-2016 05:52 PM

I once saw a group on last.fm that read, "I'm so indie I sh*t pitchforks."

Just got back from a long day in Tokyo, and this came up...

David Bowie - Blackstar

I listened to this album the day it released, sitting on my sofa with my woman drinking beer and getting (my mind) blown.

Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51fQxJwLMjL.jpg
My go-to drinking album.

Bon Iver - Blood Bank
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41p1Ymqq-yL.jpg

I haven't heard an album of his I disliked.

The Chemical Brothers - Born in the Echoes
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61fKEhv78vL.jpg
My first encounter with The Chemical Brothers' music. I like it a lot! Getting more.

Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls

First encounter with this band. Great, soulful, rockin' tunes.

Supertramp - Breakfast in America
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51-Pb5T%2B23L.jpg
An old favorite. Love "The Logical Song" and "Goodbye Stranger".

This album has grown on me.

The Frames - Burn the Maps
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RN64R8Y9L.jpg
One of my favorite bands. Love them so much.

Tomita Isao - The Planets
http://eil.com/images/main/Isao+Tomi...ets+304693.jpg
Don't want to trample on Mr. Tomita's ashes, but this suuuuuucks.

Zhanteimi 05-10-2016 03:42 AM

ANOHNI - HOPELESSNESS
http://media1.fdncms.com/chicago/ima...?cb=1462822048

Keane - Hopes and Fears
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._and_Fears.jpg
An old favorite. Love this album. Good memories associated with it.

Ben Harper - Burn to Shine

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
http://cdn.albumoftheyear.org/album/...rie-lowell.jpg
One of my favorite artists.

Bright Eyes - Cassadaga
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._Cassadaga.jpg
To me, Bright Eyes is looking out the ceiling-to-floor one-way window in the suite of the Prince Hotel, looking out over the city nightscape of Tokyo, tripping on a threshold level of LSD with my three best friends.

Key 05-11-2016 10:43 AM

Aside from a few records you've mentioned in the past and especially Carrie & Lowell (yuck) you've got great taste in music. The one member closest to mine fasho.

Just because I mention it in this thread doesn't mean I like it. I'll throw almost anything someone recommends in rotation, and then if I don't like it, I take it out. But I do love everything Sufjan Stevens has done, including Carrie & Lowell. :)
