My 2-hour holiday-mix for a radio show starts and ends with Esquivel wishing us a space-age happy holiday.

Somehow it never occurred to me that Japanese Bossa Nova might be a thing...

Couple of recent acquisitions here. The former is one of Vangelis's early, more diverse sounding records. Has some groovy classic rock elements amidst his psychedelic experimentation. Silver on the other hand are like a more country version of the Eagles. Lots of great songs on both these albums. :) https://img.discogs.com/0fktn_GUXKqi...-6633.jpeg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/BLFGlmK.jpg |
N.E.R.D. - "No One Ever Really Dies" [2017]

One of my favorite Vangelis 70s albums -
actually, I pretty much gave up on him except for a couple LPs in the 80s. The Cuneiform release is NYP here. |
The Residents - 13th Anniversary Show - Live In The USA
Good to see this remastered and easier to get. It's the Minneapolis show from the '86 tour of which my wife and I both saw - but at different venues. Twenty-nine tracks at 103 minutes. Snakefinger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://tinyimg.io/i/mm2TZic.jpg |

Rostasi, you been on the lam, collecting records as of late, or just posting your collection?

Actually, I'm right here - especially when wintertime rolls around.
I'm always listening to huge amounts of music nearly all day long - just usually not as full albums. But, lately, I've been doing some light cruising thru stuff that I'm adding to drives (good sized pile of stuff on the floor next to me) and listening while working on some other projects that I'm desperately trying to finish before the new year. 2018 will be more LP-related stuff 'cause that's the area that really needs sifting in order to make more room here. Also, I'm making playlists based on who's gonna be at the 2018 Big Ears Festival this March - a kind of "primer" - to get us ready here at home (and in the car) for the trip. This weekend, the house will be filled with the continuous sounds of this luscious 16-disc set, so that will be a big chunk of continuous listening. |

Zola Jesus - Okovi Good. Better than Conatus. Maybe not as good as Stridulum II? https://e.snmc.io/lk/s/l/9e26435ec7a...2f/6557959.jpg Kirin J. Callinan - Bravado I get what he was going for on this. Overwrought, overproduced pop music with wry, ironic Jarvis-Cocker lyrics--I mean he's literally pissing on himself in the album artwork. LITERALLY taking the piss. But. It's just musically not my thing. https://e.snmc.io/lk/s/l/749ff4d9cbb...08/6581066.jpg Alex Cameron - Forced Witness Another ironic pop album. Kind of fun. Probably the most uses of the word "pussy" I've ever heard in a single sitting. https://e.snmc.io/lk/s/l/3f4399766c9...74/6350802.jpg Molly Burch - Please Be Mine If Beach House wrote an indie-folk / alt-country album. Pleasant throughout, slightly dull, but still nice. https://e.snmc.io/lk/s/l/d50a10960ce...69/6612617.jpg Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps Been listening to this a lot. Beautiful singing and songwriting here, a bit like Kathleen Edwards, but without the country influences. Georgia is an amazing song. Pairs well with Brooke Waggoner's Sweven. https://e.snmc.io/lk/s/l/3909fa933bb...94/6720279.jpg Fever Ray - Plunge Eh. Karin Dreijer's best work is with the Knife. Not into this at all. Isn't awful, but is still kind of a mess. https://e.snmc.io/lk/s/l/95af33f186e...f4/6498504.jpg EMA - Exile in the Outer Ring Solid noise pop. https://e.snmc.io/lk/s/l/07c3999b70a...9f/2312329.jpg Amenra - Mass I: Prayer I-VI The only thing this has going for it is that it's so short. |

I was wondering about that Phoebe Bridgers album. Almost looks like the album cover for Greatest Hits of Islam, Volume One, doesn't it? Like Edwards, eh? May give that a shot then, Ped. Thanks. :)

Good to revisit this again. Sounding as gloriously radiant and believe-it-or-not, nuanced (and at such a young age) as it did about 25 years ago. Nice Michel Camilo-like playing from the pianist. Thanks for the reminder. http://tinyimg.io/i/CbmVwot.jpg |
