I agree with Ki if it is a band I like and the material isn't the type of stuff I am use to. e.g. I had to give a couple of Genesis albums a few tries before I like liked them.

I agree with Ninetales when it comes to bands I don't like. If they don't present material I like I am not going to struggle with it till I like it, if ever. There is too much stuff out there to find and appreciate.

Some black metal bands have cited the Sonic Youth song 'Cross the Breeze as an influence. The song itself was inspired by Slayer's South of Heaven album. Make what you want out of that.

Thurston Moore said "Black Metal is music made by pussies of the lowest order, and we felt it was necessary to investigate this aberrant anti-music behaviour. We feel like the sound and attitude of black metal is a loss of self, life, light and desire in a way where it becomes so negative that a whole new bliss arrives where we become super pussy."

I don't know what any of that means but III: Beneath Trident's Tomb was real good.

Seems like he's being a bit tongue in cheek.

I've liked Sonic Youth for a while like their noisier stuff personally (80's era), but black metal I'm just taking my first small careful steps into so far not too hot not too cold.
