Green Day didn't push any boundaries. They weren't even punk when they were trying to be punk.

5 Grammys and 75 million albums sold = R&R HOF.

One would think being within the rock n roll genre would be a qualifier too.

sounds good to me,
do the people naysaying Greenday's nod for the HoF actually believe every previous inductee has innovated or shaped music?

Popularity and mass appeal is an impact whether you like it or not. You all know who they are, so surely they've made an impact on you.

It seems to me that disliking Green Day is a music nerd's hobby.

I don't particularly like Green Day but they definitely deserve to be in the Rock 'n' Roll HOF.

If people think that whether or not an artists was highly innovative and did great things for music aren't two big things that whoever is nominated should have, then I don't know what to say to you.

What exactly has Green Day done for music? I can't name a single thing other than prove once again that being mediocre is good enough to get in. May as well put Taylor Swift in while we're at it. Surely hasn't been around in music for 25 years but here again, the R&R Hall of Fame will probably put her in too because man, she sure sells a lot of records and wins awards! But she's another example of a mediocre artist with little to offer that people, for some reason, say is so great. She wrote a break up song or a song about loss that has been written countless times over in various genre of music, only the writing is much worse, but let's give her a Grammy for it!

I am so damn bitter lol!

I have my own share of Green Day music I like. But shaping music or making a huge impact, being innovative, those things should be big qualities or things any nominee has. Undoubtedly, Green Day made an impact and I'd be arrogant to disagree on that, obviously millions of people adore them, god forbid. But their music didn't have anything new to offer, none at all. And I think those that get a nomination, or get in no less, should indeed have done something to shape the world of music. And amassing millions of albums sold, Grammy's, is not shaping the world of music. They're achievements.

I haven't heard any bands that come up and cite Green Day as this huge, life changing influence on their band and the music they play. I haven't read about anyone saying Green Day changed the whole world of Punk Rock, raised the bar, because they didn't, there is just no significant thing Green Day and their music has done for music in general, other than existing and being a successful band. Fact of the matter is Green Day were influenced by Punk, and while you hear it in their music, I would much rather say they're a Rock band.
