The Republicans were right. Having two mommies made Pet_Sounds gay.

I read the above conversation before school this morning and suffered irregular outbursts of chuckling all day as a result. Everyone thought I was strange.

Never really got into either country rock or southern rock. I mean some of it was ok but never enough to actually buy it. If I had to choose one I'd go with southern rock though. Country rock was basically a country band where the guitar player figured out how to make his amplifier distort.

Never really got into country either. Any country artists that I do listen to are more along the lines of folk and blues with a country element like Townes van Zandt, Hank Williams, and Cash.

And another controversial opinion: Big Time is Tom Waits' best album.

Check out some Violent Femmes. They rock like some mother****ers, meld it with convincing country, and are ****ing weird enough that they don't just sound like country artists with heavier riffs. First two albums are quality, with the second being one of my fav of any genre. Haven't heard as good things about them after that though.

Haven't listened to Hank Williams (I'm assuming you're talking about the original, as I've heard II was a glitzy pretender, and III is a poseur trading in on his grandfather's name as far as I'm concerned), but I love me some Townes and Cash. Haven't listened to nearly enough of either, but At Folsom Prison is hands down the coolest live album I've ever heard, and the few early Townes albums I've listened to are pure magic. Dude pours forth emotion to an extent that can't be entirely healthy, and his strummy folk has a musical quality that is leaps and bounds more creative than any cheesball singer-songwriter.

They are really good but started life as an alt rock band. I'm talking about bands that start out country and then decide to add a bit of crunch tones.

Listening to Steve Wilson is equivalent to taking a bunch of melatonin. Well, most of it. Some of his music is even too boring to make me fall asleep.
