The latter is at least that's being honestly condescending. The former generally amounts to, "This hot pair o' tits has some arms that do stuff with a guitar that's cool too."

Sure, but who does that anyway?

Anata - Proving you don't have to reinvent a genre to reinvent a genre. What Anata does is very distinct and personal, if not hard to describe. They entered the world of technical/melodic death metal with a new landscape of musical ideas and progression. Their riffs and melodies almost seem to have written themselves into existence, weaving fluidly out and in like waves at sea. Truly masters of the field.
Taal - This is what metal in opposition would sound like if there ever was any. They take this obscure prog metal world and introduce it to chamber music and stylings from every niche of progressive rock and metal. You hear new things every time you listen to them, in this regard their creativity would seem almost boundless. If you irrationally believe there can't be nuance in metal anymore, listen to Skymind, nuance incarnate.
Thrashing Mossdog - Halfway through the year and we have six small releases from this solo act, in a challenge to make an EP every month. Surely he can't bring anything new to the table with all this music. Nah, **** your gay ass face, his thinking is perpetually forward. The project delivers concentrated bursts of zany death metal from a post metal spectrum. It's like Gorguts combined with Neurosis, compressed into the most exciting bits of either.
Geryon - While in my opinion this band's quirk leads to somewhat of a lack of fullness, there's no denying the originality held therein. Progressive death metal featuring only bass and drums, which opens the door to more experimentation.
Gigan - Again the tech death world is graced with extraterrestrial visitors. Gigan have an alien, psychedelic quality to their music, and the squelching guitar is like none you've heard before.
Emptiness - Death metal is still obvious no matter how far away they reach for influence. Emptiness are adventurous in that their nuance comes from anything but metal, creating a fluid ocean of darkwavy and industrial brutality.
Terra Tenebrosa - Some of the most listenable dissonance out there. It's loud, destructive, with walls of sound to rival China. The atmosphere is chilling and antisocial yet somehow very satisfying to the ears[/b]
Horrendous - Warming death metal with an eclectic palette of ideas. The style is subtly unique and pleasant. More just open minded than progressive.
Zeal and Ardor - Strange metal interwoven with gospel/bluesy spirituals. Very light in the metal sense, and a great example of music that in facts blends genres rather than haphazardly shifting in and out.
Castevet - A style that is unlike anything you might be used to, fusing black metal with various post-genres. Mounds of Ash is a brilliant, emotive, and one hundred percent unique work.
Universe 217 - A lot going on in their work, and we're treated with some kind of aural painting of extreme metal that is at times psychedelic, industrial, or doomy, but always new.
I checked out most of these and the previous ones you posted. Not bad music, but there's nothing here that excites me. I think the problem is that I'm bored with what this music is even trying to me - which means I'll be bored with it even when it's very successful.

Most of what you posted is tied more or less to extreme metal, and I'm just done with that whole thing. You clearly love this stuff and that's awesome. I just can't find it in me to care about it.

I mean, I'll listen to a bit of Gorod or something once in a while, but I feel no drive to explore further in this direction. There's so much other music out there that has a much stronger pull on me. Metal in general and especially extreme metal bores me to tears (with increasingly fewer exceptions).

I see it a lot in the punk scene talking to people after shows.

Not true. At least not the scene I partake in. There's some great bands fronted by chicks here in south Texas. Never heard not one remotely sexist comment ever. So this may be anecdotal but I refuse to believe all scenes are as skinhead as Frowns.

Although the chick fronted bands complain they aren't represented like the male bands because they're chicks. I disagree with that as well.

Trust me, there are a lot of people in your scene who are condescendingly supportive too.

JTF is the biggest feminist here. He was treating Waxdogtree fairly when he told her she was attractive bit not, like, hot.
