I think it's a bit unfair to lump Mariah Carey in with the rest of those. A decent voice and a pretty face are a dime a dozen, but you got to respect how she went under the knife to improve her vocal range and pretty much turn herself into an instrument. Her range is mind-blowing; her music isn't bad insofar as American pop is concerned; and she wrote the majority of her own songs.

She is dedicated. Still don't respect her music though.

Understandable; I listened to her a lot as an adolescent and can't say I've "felt the urge" since then... Just hated to see her lumped in with the rest of that crap for the aforementioned reasons... I also don't think it's particularly fair to lump Winehouse in the mix either, since she never had a chance to grow as an artist.

Not to mention the added mystery of constantly wondering whether or not any animals had taken habitat inside her hair.

Mariah Carey and Amy? Really? Can't you just say I respect what they bring to the table but it's just not my cup of tea?

Unbelievable voices. Once in a lifetime voices.

I don't mind Amy Winehouse, but as I noted in my post she wasn't at that level of great yet musically.
