That's the general consensus that Robert Plant is cool, and/or Robert Plant is cooler, or better than Axle Rose. But my reason thinking Robert Plant is cool is a little more unorthodox. Robert Plant did a stint with Rockpile, and he was in The Honeydrippers, and that is why I think he is cool/cooler most other frontmen/singers. He could shed his Led Zeppelin persona and be a regular guy who just sings good songs.

Axl Rose? Well… just look at this thread. People are lining up to shit on him. The man may be a lot of things, but overrated isn't one of them.
I usually ask "what rating are we looking at?"

And I often answer "Is x overrated/underrated" questions by referencing some specific rating. So I might say, "Well, such and such album only has a 3.1 on rym. I'd give it a 5. So I'd say it's underrated per that."

It's not about number of fans vs. nonfans or my number rating system vs. RYM. GnR are very popular and his isn't that great, it's a high pitch whine. Axl Rose isn't original, his vocal style is a lot like Tom Keifer's. No on in Rock and Roll sounded like Robert Plant. Plant had contemporaries could sing just as strong like Roger Daltry and Elvis, but they all had unique vocal quality. Axl Rose isn't that great, despite the fact people like to pounce on Led Zeppelin, he doesn't compare to Plant.

If we're talking about something being overrated or underrated, I want to know what the rating is first.

I wouldn't say that Robert Plant could be overrated.

Because, to the average person, Axl Rose is kind of a joke, though they still might like a couple old GnR songs.
