I'll definitely give you that it's gimmicky and overrated. Tries way too hard to sound "Egyptian", but it's still a good song.

I'd actually say "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is a more overrated track though, since it's even more often cited among the album's best tracks, as exemplified by your rankings, for instance.
I mean, do I really want to hear Steve Harris play augmented chords for 3 minutes while Bruce whispers 19th century poetry into the microphone...? Sorry lads, try sticking to what you're good at.

I kinda do, actually. I don't even listen to that many 10 minute+ songs, but Iron Maiden keep it immediate while keeping it epic. I'll play "Aces High" more times, cause it's the ultimate Maiden track, along with "The Trooper", but "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is a long-time fav.

Damn straight.

I totally agree with your original post though. I think that most of the people who think modern hip hop is going in the wrong direction would've been bitching about Nirvana killing rock and metal in the 90s if they were a part of that crowd.
