I've never been able to identify with country... I guess growing up in a city environment kinda makes it harder to identify with it... but IMO alot of country songs are just too hokey, sentimental or just plain irritating in terms of how they sound... I can't really even get into the whole alt - country thing, either. It just, i dunno, grates on my nerves...

What's not to get? Depression and honestly displayed like never before. Have you never heard Isolation, Disorder, New Dawn Fades, Love Will Tear Us Apart and so many more? Just sounds like noise. Pfft.

i do appreciate Love Will Tear Us Apart but i find the rest to be very inaccessible. i know a lot of people here will rip me apart for this, but hey, that's the theme of the thread, eh?

I agree. Joy Division = great music, far greater than just "noise", for sure.

Listen to the rhythm, that drumming! Legend has it that the producer made the drummer Morris to take apart his drum kit during a recording session and reassemble it on the roof. Just a bit of trivia there. Just listen to Unknown Pleasures 5 times, and you'll get it.

Disorder is the first song I really heard from them. The opener to the album, really accessible.

I just never got into The Fall, I've only listened to This Nation's Saving Grace and never really took to it.

Though I lived near where they formed, for a time. I might listen to This Nation's Saving Grace again. Been a while since I tried it out.
