Ok, so it's kind of an opinion in that way. Just not one I'm 100% settled on yet.

Here's the thing: I'm so used to thinking of myself as a metalhead and checking out metal news very often. I've still got some black band t-shirts that I wear at times as well.

But I think that I'm kind of tired of metal. I think metal is boring, basically. Often even really, really, really damn tedious. I never find new metal acts that I like anymore - I just keep up with some favorites. I'm not saying that I'm suddenly going to sell all of my metal, but probably some of it over the next few years...

It's not about new metal coming out now being boring. It's the classics too. All boring. Especially extreme metal.

I don't think it's just a phase. It's been simmering in the back of my mind for a long while.

I could get into why it's so boring, but that would probably be difficult to talk about.
You don’t talk about metal much here so I’m actually kind of surprised to hear you say that you were once really into it.

You've grown used to what you used to find exciting and new?

I've grown out of metal a bit myself and while I don't think I've reached the point of viewing it as boring, I am disappointed that I'm not being surprised as often as when I was digging into black and death metal.

I think I've been bored with metal for longer than I was really aware; somehow not wanting to realize it. Probably a good 30-40% of my CD collection is metal. But most new albums I've bought for a long time have been everything else than metal.

I'm equally used to a bunch of things that I still like, so I don't think it's just an overdose or overfamiliarity. I think I want something else from music now.
Most metal just feels like a big, grey blob of dull noise to me now. Mechanically going through the motions without much in the way of color, nuance or expressive musicianship. Sometimes, I still want to hear something loud and energetic, but it was never what I liked about it first and foremost.

Of course, it's just subjective. Other people will find that a lot of metal speaks to them on a deeper level - and there's still some stuff that I don't see myself turning away from anytime soon. But overall, I'm just rarely ever "feeling it" anymore.

This sounds like exactly what I was describing.

I've been looking very, very hard for a long time. The underground is almost as boring to me as the main stream.

Well, I wouldn't describe my dislike of any other genre the same way.

Have you more or less fallen out with a genre you once called your favourite aside from metal though?

No, it's never happened before.

But if I was being a bit crude about it, I could suggest that a main trait of metal is to be intentionally hamfisted.
I think I'm experiencing some sort of disconnect with what the genre is actually about. Just look at how normal it is to have growly vocals these days. I don't want that. I want to get very, very far away from that, in fact.
