I mean it makes sense to have a name for it since there is a line of influences for it starting with The Fugs, Captain Beefheart, VU, The Stooges, art rock, krautrock, punk, etc. Those might have a certain amount of influence in mainstream rock but alt rock is defined by them.

Sorry to hear that. They put on one of the best shows my eyes will ever see. They've come up with some out there ideas over the years. Their album Zaireeka is a four CD set in which all four discs must be played simultaneously. They've released singles in USB sticks embedded in gummy skulls.

The reissue for Yoshimi battles the pink robots looks pretty good. I would have loved to have been at their bubble shows during the pandemic.
