I love the Pumpkins. I understand how people can dislike them because of Billy's voice, but aside from that, I really think the hate is undeserved.

Saddle Creek has arguably the best array of bands/artists signed out of any other label. More than half of the music released is great.

Marcy Playground is vastly underrated.

Radiohead is vastly overrated.

Most classic rock sucks, and it's only good when you're in a "classic rock phase".

The Arcade Fire's Funeral, however great, is not one of the best albums of all time.

Nirvana was the only good grunge band. The others are only acceptable at times.

Trapt's self-titled is a great album.

Rage Against the Machine gets very old. Very fast.

Fugazi is overrated.

Anything Ozzy Osbourne-associated just simply isn't anything worth listening to more than once.

I also hate them for their pointless bloody lyrics and their boring sound. I mean, yeah, his voice is terrible, but there's plenty of reasons to hate Smashing Pumpkins.

wut.

The sound of rock, whatever you want to define that as, has definitely changed over the years, but considering that there's a basic framework in every song that has at least some basis in music released 30-50 years ago, please, enlighten me: what music do you listen to? I can already tell by the way you talk about how Nirvana is the only good grunge band (hahahaha) and that you think Trapt was, at any point, good (pff), that you might have tastes that are, at least in my eyes, totally lacking, but still. Curious.

How are their lyrics pointless? Billy is a great lyricist...go look at the lyrics to the songs on Adore or Machina. I'll admit they were a bit amateur on Gish, but he was just starting out. Plenty of bands write ok lyrics in the beginning. And boring sound? You call 40 overdubbed guitar parts boring? Seriously, the only real reason I can find to dislike the Pumpkins is his voice. If you find other reasons you are making them up.

By "classic rock", I mean the typical "idols" and well-known artists of pre-90's music, such as Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, etc. It's not that I don't enjoy them. I just don't go out of my way to listen to them. I used to love all of them, but that was only a musical "phase" for me.

My frequent plays are (but not limited to) Bright Eyes, the pAper chAse, St. Vincent, Xiu Xiu, Cursive, The Octopus Project, The Decemberists, Fair to Midland, Porcupine Tree, and much music that makes up the Denton, Texas, music scene.

As for Nirvana, they were the only grunge band I ever got into. Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam only mildly interested me.

And the Trapt thing was me grabbing at what I used to listen to. I still think it's a good album, and would listen to it all the way through, but not more so than once every few months, probably. It just doesn't come to mind that often.

Don't use the term "classic rock" then. In general it's a dumb term and used by radio stations to classify what type of programming they have.
