Why do you bold artist names

I appreciate it! I know I always make an effort to italicize album names. Maybe he just prefers to bold the artist instead? Both systems work...

I do both...bold artists and italicize albums. For comprehension. I hate when people write about music in all lowercase assuming everyone knows the artists and albums they're talking about, and letting them make sense of it.

"Oh my god cats and cats and cats and on the might of princes and you will know us by the trail of dead i love them hehe source tags & codes really cool sweet drunk everyone too great bands."

I mean, what the shit is that? I'm just being considerate. In literature, you italicise or underline (can't remember) the names of books, articles, magazines, or whatever, right? Same concept. It's to help identify it as a title (artist or album) and not just words in the sentence.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

And the MB courtesy crusade wages on...

I agree, though Italicizing and underlining are used for the same purposes when it comes to titles, but italicizing is key on the webz as most underlined stuff looks like a hyperlink.

But you're supposed to italicize album names and stick song names in quotations, but putting artist names in bold just makes you sound like you have an internet speech impediment. It's unnecessary emphasis! When I see a proper noun in the middle of a sentence talking about music I think it's safe to assume that if I have no idea what it is it's a band, and Google is about 3 seconds away.

Contextually it makes a difference. If you've ever been reading someone's post and been frustrated at not having a clue about who or what they were talking about you'd realize that it can make all the difference in the world, and just because you're supposed to do something doesn't mean that everyone takes the time to. Yeah, you can always hit up Google, but who wants reading someone's post to turn into a research project?

I think I've just come across too many idiot posts that don't even bother to properly capitalize band names, so I make it clear. I think that's better than the opposite.

I also find it nice to be able to skim someone's post easily to see what they're talking about. Put Lady Gaga and Puff Daddy in bold and I get an instant clue to ignore the post and move on to the next.

I like it. It helps me know while scrolling down a page if the post he's making is about a band I like or a band I've been meaning to check out, which in turn reminds me to get into the band.
