Yes, but I'm lazy and will keep shortening stuff down.

When you say Punk, you mean anything that falls under punk.
When you say Metal, you mean anything that falls under Metal.
They're technically not genres themselves (Heavy Metal would be the correct term for the traditional type of metal), but it's still useful.

Also, some people just shorten ****, there's no problem with that, at least I don't think so.

I believe the term is SUBgenre.

EDIT: actually, you can call it "punk" but just know the actual genre is punk rock.

EDIT 2: Also, forget hardcore punk rock, you can just call it hardcore punk. Just calling it hardcore I don't think is correct in any sense.
Most of those are subgenres. Though I would say hardcore after the 80s is its own genre, distinct from rock or even punk rock.

The thing with the genres was more or less a rant about the Last FM users that tag genres inconsistently. Like some punk songs have "punk" being their most used tag, others have "punk rock."

(It's odd that I'm annoyed by this. I'm not usually this OCD about things. I guess this is just a pet-peeve of mine.)

I was kind-of hoping you'd challenge my point...rather than my use of the term "punk"...backfired a bit there. Assal Bastard don't actually exist...good name for a band though.

What? Oh, sorry, my comment was in no way related to yours.

With all this talk about how to properly say genre names shouldn't "emo" really be called...
"Emotive-Post-Hardcore-Punk-Rock-n-Roll"?
