Or maybe some people just aren't a fan of his sound and delivery. Billy Woods talks about things that affect minorities all the time and I understand what he's talking about on his albums. Just because you conflate the race of an artist with their music doesn't mean that everyone else does.

Is Aesop Rock overrated because he is white? EL-P? Brother Ali? Etc.

Sure, there are certain white rappers who gain mainstream attention because of their skin colour (and Eminem is definitely one of them) but you really need to remember that we are discussing these matters on Musicbanter. This isn't the Top 40 chart comment section. So treat us respectfully and please don't assume we treat him, or anyone else for that matter, differently because of his skin color.

Make it clear that you are talking about the wider population at least if you are going to bring race into it, because I can guarantee myself, Frown and probably anyone else who discusses it on here gives two poop's what color Eminem is.

I don't think I have to make anything clear because I express how I feel about Eminem perfectly in this thread and this is not the first time I expressed this about him here.

A large percentage as to why Eminem is called the greatest and the best is because he is a white man that raps.

That is not even being disrespectful, that is just stating the truth!

You never hear the media call Nas or Chuck the best or the greatest. You will never hear the corporate media praising a political conscious black rapper.

The Rock Hall of Fame snubbed WAR to induct the Beastie Boys a couple years ago which was complete B.S. People who want to act like race is not a factor in these white rapper's success and it is beyond hilarious.

Mackle Moore or whoever won grammy's over Kendrick Lamar last year which was ridiculous! I am not even a huge Kendrick fan but he should have at least won best new artist.

Even casual music fans think of the Grammys and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame as a joke so maybe that's not the best evidence for you to use.

It's disrespectful for you to bring his skin color up whilst having a discussion with myself and Frownland on the matter, as if we are part of it. We don't think he is the greatest, far from it actually (guessing on his part).

As I said, it's fine if you want to bring race into the matter when discussing a wider consensus, but don't act as though we have formed our opinions on that basis. Especially when you have been given musical reasons as to why an opinion has been formed.

Flow-wise I've never heard anything from any of them that really put to Em to shame. He's at least as good, and often better. Lyrically, yeah, he whines too much about his mother, but the emotional honesty he puts into his music is astounding. His music can be totally raw, and even his silly singles could only have been made by him. And Eminem has a perfectly big catalog of classics.

If Em is overrated for being white, that's generally only among other white people, cause a sizable portion of black people don't even take him seriously just because he's white.

A.) I love Illmatic. It's a classic, but it's still dated as hell. B.) Don't play the race card just to claim superiority. It's bull****; I don't have to be black to appreciate his message (I also don't have to be gay to take offense at "My style switches up like a faggot".)

NONE of Em's albums are close to the impact that album made.
Are you asking me this question or is this just a general comment?

They also inducted Michael Jackson and Grand Master P, two artists who are in no way shape or form rock 'n' roll. They induct who will get attention, and people care a lot more about the Beastie Boys than they do about WAR.

And about Eminem's cultural impact vs. Nas'. Eminem has had impact on popular culture that far, far outstrips Nas. You wanna talk about icons? Eminem is one of the biggest icons of the last twenty years, bar none.

Soulflower, I think you're a bit of a racist. There's plenty of non-white non-black non-hispanic rappers with some serious skill that get ignored by all races. If simply being the only one of your color could make you famous, there'd be a very wealthy gangsta Hindu man somewhere in this wide world.
