Not what I meant in fairness. I am talking about genres/styles, not popularity as such.

I disagree. I was listening to some indie stoner rock (the particular song was over 8 minutes long) the other day and it was heavier to me than suffocation. Like Briks said, faster does not mean heavier IMO.

I never meant in terms of speed. I just think death metal is heavier. However, I will also agree with you that stoner and doom metal can be heavier in some cases. So, i'm sort of in-between.

Courtney Love is hilariously bad, but I mean recently more than past tense. Her attitude kills it for me, which is why I never gave Hole much of a shot before. Honestly, I don't like Hole anyway, not what I've heard. Courtney Love has made a ton of enemies, not just in the industry, but in normal, ordinary people too.

There was someone in this thread, maybe two pages back, that commented on how death metal is heavier than doom metal. I think it's a matter of perspective. Both genre's are heavy, but either one being heavier than the other is a toss up because each of the two have bands that are just melt your face off, heavy. Doom metal, some of it or a lot of it can have a sludgier guitar tone, and to some people, that's a heavier sound.

As a musician though like i said, she's not that bad.
She isn't great either, Hole is not a ground breaking band but they made a couple of decent grunge songs.

idk if she wrote the songs herself though i heard Billy corgan wrote most of her major hits.
On account of her being such a bitch what little talent she had was overshadowed by her public persona.

That recent isolated audio of her singing and guitar playing at a show she put on, was horrid. It was like a six year old was mindlessly strumming on a guitar, and somehow, hitting audible chords every now and then hahaha...

Courtney Love, I've never given her much credit as a musician. I do agree that somewhere under all of that bitch she flaunts around, there's a decent musician with some talent, to an extent. But I think she stopped caring to actually be any good or make an impact when her relevance or popularity began to lesson.

Depends. If we're talking seriously technical death metal like Necrophagist, then hell no. Any heaviness is stripped by noodling. Old eighties death metal like early Death? Not really. It's probably about as heavy as Slayer, just possibly more intense. Brutal death metal like Suffocation or Cryptopsy? Well, I forget what they call it (and I do seem to remember there being a term), but the sheer wall of dense, pummeling sound is certainly heavy, but it's not the first description I would use---and most of the bands that I would call the heaviest, like Dying Fetus, also throw in a lot of slower breakdown sections. Hell, I think a lot of deathcore bands are heavier than traditional death metal bands just because they concentrate on breakdowns so much. I think a doom metal band who is as committed to playing extreme music is going to be far more heavy than their death metal counterpart.

What would you say is heavier? This...

Or this...

I think that all of the speed of Cryptopsy makes a lot of the sound fly past you in a way that reduces sonic "weight", while the slower riffing of Thorr's Hammer immerses you in every single note to the point that you are suffocated by a wall of unbroken noise, with no space in between the notes to let any "air" in.

I would definitely say the Thorr's Hammer track is much heavier than the other one. Not sure where that puts me in terms of what I consider to be more heavy.
