Not at all. Rage's legacy is nothing more than a bunch of college students wearing Che Guevarra tshirts in order to appear that they know something about politics.

Lyrically Rage were way dodgy. Writing a song with about 6 lines in it with one of those being "f*ck you I won't do what you tell me" doesnt make you Tony Benn.

And that vastly discredits them, people who hate rage just assume that their fan base is a bunch of college kids who want to be aware.

I don't suppose anyone would like them for the music they made? Do their lyrics overshadow the music that much, or is it that any band who writes about politics is immediatly discredited for "trying to appear smart."

Get over the complex.

I think Zach's lyrics and vocals are sub par and border line annoying. Tim has some tight bass lines. Tom was innovative and is fun to listen to. I usually try to ignore lyrics[listening to music in general] unless they're exceptionally witty or something. And sometimes ignore vocals all together. Instrumental is just the most important part to me.

I must admit that Im not a big fan of politics in music full stop. Its just a load of idealistic hippie bullsh*t.

Im not attacking here, but I would like to know why you describe them as sub par, he was no pop singer, but most rock singers aren't. I'm trying to get to the heart of the issue because to me, Rage was one of a handful of bands in the 90's who weren't doing the same thing everyone else was...until everyone else followed them in the late 90's.

Not really. I just think that if you had real problems in your life you wouldnt be worrying about politics. Why do you think Ian Curtis or Kurt Cobain didnt write about politics?

I agree with latter they were doing good things. Instrumentally solid and my only problem with them is Zach. It's just that he rubs me the wrong way. When I hear something I like it or I don't. Then I go back and look and see if there's more to it that my basic impulses. Good lyrics or vocal approach [refering to the musical writing approach for certain situation] can gain my respect and to me he doesn't have it. I was agreeing with you that lyrics and vocals aren't a good reason to not like band.
