abbey road is the greatest album of all time.

and jayjamjah, your list is a joke. if i wanted this same garbage that i can find in any music magazine on the shelves i'd go buy a rolling stone. i come here for real music disussion. not this kind of crap. your list is a rehash of every list that guitar magazine and rolling stone have ever done.

Led Zeppelin "The Biggest Band in the World"

5 reasons you can't argue with the them as a no-brainer top five ever.

1. Over 300 million records sold Only Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and The Beatles have sold more.

2. The first Major Heavy Metal Band in Rock and Roll History paving the way for Black Sabbath and the like.

3. #1 on VH1's list of the greatest Hard Rock Artists of all-time and #4 on the overall Rock and Roll list.

4. Incorporated more styles of Music into their Rock & Roll repertoire then any other band ever including but not limited to blues, country, rockabilly, jazz, soul, classical, Celtic, Arabic and Indian, folk, funk & reggae.

5. Arguably the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player ever Jimmy Page who has written more identifiable riffs then any other guitar player ever. Johnny Ramone, and Eddie Van Halen credit Page as the sole influence and inspiration for both of their unique signature guitar playing styles.

How the hell is Jimmy Page arguably the best? Not even close. Top 15, maybe top 10 at best. Who cares what VH thinks. I think they deserve credit for their musical diversity, even though they weren't very good at anything besides hard rock.

@Crowquill I know it's held in high esteem but I've just never gotten into it.

Quoted for untruth.

Finally, a signature that's chewy not chalky!

Let's agree to disagree.

Record sales do not equal greatness, there are plenty of artists such as Britney Spears who have probably sold more albums than artists such as Joy Division, does that make her better? Nope.

You make it sound like Zeppelin are the only ones to have introduced other genres into their music, what about Primal Scream, Bowie, the Beatles, or the Clash? Also having listened to two Zeppelin albums I do not recall them doing all that.

I'd like to see some sources on that Johnny Ramone thing, i've never heard about that before.

MHDTV, you must be a teenager...

Don';t get me wrong I like you value your opinion and respect it, but yikes!

The VH1 list was compiled by over 100 of Music most popular and influential living artists, so I'd say it has credence.

He is arguably the best because he is in the top five on almost ever list you'll ever see. Including the personal lists of both Eric Clapton and B.B King. He was named guitar player of the year something like six straight years.l The Yardbirds claimed he was far and away their best guitar player (Clapton and Jeff Beck were the other two) and as I cited with two brief examples next to Hendrix his influence on Rock and Roll guitar players is the most notable ever.

And if you think they weren't good at anything but hard rock, well your just wrong, even if it is an opinion. Their Blues impact is amazing, and Led Zeppelin III is a very strong folk rock inspired album. Great songs, great respect for the classics, I'm blowing hard now so I'll drop it, but you get the point.

12. As Crowquill said, this lsit isn't supposed to be a recreation of the ****ty lists in magazines or on TV. In case you don't know, blues are the blueprint for hard rock. I admit III was a pretty good folky album, but it's far from great. I would take Clapton over Page in technical skill, but not in overall greatness.

Don't be an Idiot, look at the company they keep, Record Sales mean a ton! Not the be all end all by any means but the best method we have to arbitrarily decipher commercial success and worldwide mass appeal.

They formed the same year as Sabbath.

Zeppelin released two albums of Hard Rock before Sabbath's debut self title in 1970.

Not sure I ever said it wasn't...by the way what's your list? A rehash of every list in every guitar magazine that was inspired by my list...no?

No I don't make it sound anything like that. I was very specific to say that they used more types of music as influence then other bands. Not that they were the only ones to do it.

I'd like to see some sources on that Johnny Ramone thing, i've never heard about that before.
Check Johnny's web page and you'll see he has Jimmy Page as his favorite guitarist ever. Here is an article about that...Steve Beard on Johnny Ramone on National Review Online

Also check Page's wikipedia site it eludes to it briefly

And to top that off Mr. Johnny Ramone mentioned it my mate Nigel several times. Nigel was Jimmy's guitar tech during the 1970's.

This list is a recreation of other Lists. That's what all lists are after the original. They are templates to use mixed with critical thinking and evaluation as well as surveying of the music community and it's fans to improve. Just like all automobiles are a recreation of the model-T and all wheels a recreation of the stone original.
