Can you elaborate on why you think RATM isn't worthy to be on some all time list? Other than the fact that you don't dig their music...?:-/

It looks like you need to get over the 70s. All the musicians you added post 1979 just seem forced.

get high:

The stuff I like from today is represented like Weezer and Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Mos Def, System, Incubus Tool etc. How are those forced they are by no means staples of these type of lists.

are you making a personal favorites list, or an all around best list?

I take it this is a preference thing.

But whatever, nice to meet another Incubus fan for once.

Quote:
personal preference
I wouldn't put that criteria in a greatest list, if this was just preference it would make more since.

Quote:
popular opinion
Well for one, popular opinion can be pretty damn screwy. For example, Blink 182 are more popular than The Minutemen, Foreigner are more popular than Gentle Giant, Nickelback are more popular than Pavement, Kenny G is more popular than Ornette Coleman, Hanz Zimmer is more popular than Claude Debussy, Justin Timberlake is more popular than Elliot Smith.

And no ones opinions are really better than anothers as far as good music goes. Besides, popular opinion contradicts itself quite often.

Quote:
technical ability
By that criteria, Green Day shouldn't even be in the top 1000.

Quote:
cultural significance\groundbreaking
I love Incubus. But I don't see how in the hell they are culturally significant or groundbreaking.

Quote:
relative success
311 haven't had a hit in what. 10 years?

Only 1 song about LOTR and 3 songs that briefy reference it.

Paul McCartney however wrote a song about HIS F*CKING DOG.

Yeah, a tribute to one of the greatest works in western literature, that is so much more pathetic than writing a music hall love ballad to an english sheepdog.

What in the hell is wrong with you people?
