Huh, sounds pretty average to me. I don't hear anyone aroudn here hyping about it though, so meh. Not gonna bother with these guys, but aroudn here it's all about One Direction.

Oh yeah, One Direction. It fails. It's not even popular because of its music but because of its prettyboys. Face the facts.

On a side note, they aren't even all that pretty to me. They're too fake.

The most unappreciated songwriter\multi-instrumentalist of the last 20 years.

I kind of figured as much. People here love them just because they're currently the most recognized, popular, national band that is also local to Louisville. The frontman, Jim James, has his little fingers in what seems like half the musical events around here. Kind of sucks, really.

And that... was freaking fantastic. Going to go listen to some of this guy ASAP.

I hope I don't offend anyone!

Underrated

A-Ha - I think the dude from Norway had an excellent voice. "The sun always shines on tv" is one of my favourite songs. Also check out the album "Analogue" - it rocks!

The Yardbirds - "Having a Rave Up" is an absloute gem. The first 5 songs on this album is some of the best British blues I have heard.

The Zombies - I love the guy's voice and I believe their vocal harmonies were arguably as good as the Beatles.

Overrated

Paul McCartney/Wings - "Red Rose Speedway" may actually be the worst album I have ever listened too. His best post Beatles album (BOTR) has 4 decent tracks on it.

The Kinks - They are seemingly top of everybodies underrated list, which to my mind makes them overrated. I would recommend a Kinks comp to anybody, but every Kinks album I have heard is full of mediocre filler. Good, but not great.

The Doors - I can honestly say that with the exception of "Touch me", which is merely ok, I dislike everything I have ever heard from this band... and Jim Morrison was a prick!

Underrated:

Joe Satriani - I find that a lot of people I run into either have never heard of him or simply dismiss or denounce him as another "soulless shredder" (which definitely is not the case). Fact of the matter is, when people look at his catalogue, there really are a lot of songs of his that really showcase what he can do without shredding (such as Why, Crying, Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness, etc.)

Art Brut - Great indie rock band from England. Eddie Argos is probably one of the most underrated performers I've ever known of. I've seen a few videos of the band on Youtube, he actually puts on a great show and really interacts with his audience. I don't know if they perform in Canada or what not, but I would really love to see these guys live. I doubt it would happen in the near future though.

Overrated:

Coldplay - I just do not understand what the appeal for this band is. Radiohead do the same thing they do but 10x better. I just find it funny how the former is popular with the mainstream.

U2 - Same reason I dislike Coldplay. Very boring (sometimes to the point of treading muzak territory), and there are bands that do what they do a lot better.

Steve Vai - Great guitarist, not the best songwriter. He has a lot of potential, but he just does a lot of weird **** in his music that really takes away from what could really be well-written music (such as deciding out of nowhere to experiment with weird noises in the middle of the song, and the sound samples he uses...UGH.)

You don't have to wait for them to tour to see them you can form a band I think they franchized their group where anyone can an Art Brut band. (The best tribute band I saw btw was from Canada - "The Musical Box.") The one odd thing I noticed about Art Brut is that Freddy Feedback is only seen for no more than three seconds in any video I've ever seen, that's official videos and recorded studio performances.

"They only sell records that have charted, and Art Brut, they only just started."

i rate them both about the same, i'd wish people would overlook their "tarnished" reputation as technical players for tech's sake and lump them into wankers like Malmsteen when both are quite good songwriters

saying that, though, i hope Satch doesn't ever sing again. EVER.

I'd say that Vai is a far better songwriter than Satch, because Vai brings in many different techniques and styles to writing music than Satriani, who generally plays scales and plays uppity blues rock beats. I'm a fan of both, but I think that Vai has a far better catalogue than Satriani, especially with Flex-Able in there. Both have released a few bland guitar oriented albums, though.
