I agree about Tool, but they sometimes scrape better redundancies together than others (ie. why Lateralus is their best while still having a stench of deja-vu).

Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Iron Maiden, Oasis and Animal Collective are all very overrated. Although maybe I'll not include the last one as it's mainly only their latest album that is very overrated.

Silversun Pickups are ridiculously underrated.

I agree with all of those except Maiden. Maiden is very justly rated, they're a great band.

Nickelback are the most universially hated band in the world and the only people who do like them are the laughing stock of the human race. Hardly overrated. Unless you mean in terms of album sales and THAT it true, it's a sad state of the human condition that their records still sell.

Contradiction much? If they're so hated, then why do they sell so many albums?
Btw albums are ****, but they put on a watchable live show (first concert I ever saw, unfortunately).

Overrated:
U2 - Nothing special, except MAYBE they're live performances.....and even that i'm not to sure about...Or maybe it's just Bono that makes them overrated.
Vampire Weekend

Underrated:
Broken Social Scene (SO many of my friends judge them by their name. It annoys me.)
