The Smiths are one of my favourite bands but yet again, they are one of the most popular artists of the eighties and Morissey is worshiped like a god despite being even more of a knob than Corgan.
Eh, maybe my opinion of SP is colored by the fact that the first thing I heard from them was Adore, which, IMO, was not a good album AT ALL. The only track worth listening to was Ava Adore. Plus, I think I overdosed on 1979 and Bullet With Butterfly Wings when I used to listen to alternative rock radio.

And I love The Smiths (and own copies of Strangeways, The Queen is Dead, and Meat is Murder and listen to them regularly), I just don't think they're God's gift to pop music like everyone makes them out to be. And agreed; Morissey is a total sh*thead.

Overrated: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Sufjan Stevens, Tool, Nirvana, and Paul McCartney (Solo). I would have also added Radiohead into the mix, but I only heard one album (Ok Computer).

Underrated: The Band, Warren Zevon, Leonard Cohen, Frank Zappa (Solo, the Mothers), Blind Willie McTell, Tim Buckley, and maybe Beck.

I'm so glad the diva showboating voice is missing from mainstream female singers. I always thought it was awful and it's the main reason I cringe any time Christina Aguilera sings. What you calling "saaaaangs" needs to stay in churches.

She was blacklisted and censored most of the last 10 years on American radios and music stations like MTV and VH1.
What has she done in the last 10 years?

Her discography is underrated as well.
Janet's influence isn't on pop music , it's on R&B music that's why she doesn't get credit for it as she shouldn't. It's weird that you would reduce her influence to being over pop music instead of R&B.

She is still a critical darling and having one Grammy is enough to kick you out of being underrated. Most R&B singers are in the same boat that she is in though. So I don't know what more you want. America isn't really huge into R&B unless it is Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke.

lol. Or Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston or Stevie Wonder or Beyoncé or any of the dozens of other artists who have made R&B one of the most popular genres of American music of the past half century or so.

Laugh all you want but those artists are in the minority. Industry execs don't want to give deals to R&B artists because they don't generate enough sales.

To be fair there have been a ton of RnB artists who've gone mainstream in the US. Late 90's up to the present day, ****ing loads of them. Chris Brown, Outkast (arguably), Lauryn Hill, Neyo, Brandi, TLC, Usher, Alicia Keys, Frank Ocean, Janelle Monae, The Weeknd, loads and loads and loads.

If you mean those are in the minority cos lots of others don't get signed isn't that just the norm? Could be applied to every genre pretty much. I'm sure there are a load of crappy Pop acts and Rappers who don't get signed either.

OMG LOL I am dying over here....I need oxygen hahahahaha

Sanggging lol does not mean diva showboating singing. It actually means the opposite. Tasia sings with SOUL and emotion which is something that is missing from the popular female singers of today. You can sing with emotion and soul without making long runs or showboating your vocals.

The number one thing that makes a great singer is the ability to move audiences with your voice.

Janet does not get recognize for the impact that she has had on today's popular female entertainers.

It is almost as if her legacy is swept under the rug

Janet is a POP singer who sung many different genres not just R&B.

The industry wants white people singing R&B music and black people singing pop music which is why lightweights like Timberlake can get away with singing R&B music.

D Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Maxwell were singing R&B way before JT even got a record deal and they don't get the rightful respect they deserve for their influence on the genre while JT does for making artificial imitations of it.

MJ, Whitney, and Stevie were pop singers that sung many different genres.

They did not just sing R&B.

Beyonce is a pop singer that makes dance/pop music.

R&B use to be a very popular genre but it currently isn't anymore. You can't be a R&B singer and have cross over success nowadays....unless you are white. You have to make dance/pop/rap music to cross over as an African American in todays popular industry.
