Most Underrated/Overrated Artists (blues, beatles, u2, springsteen, Nickelback)

They shouldn't have been big in the states because they decided to make Be Here Now. Cut them songs down to an appropriate length and they would've been bigger in the states, that album was the make or break and it broke them. Their own downfall, Noel came out and said he wished he made it different but it was a fun time to be in the band. Oasis started a Britpop movement even though I don't like that as a genre, 'Britpop' was never gonna be accepted in America. They had Grunge to spaff over.

Maybe I'm biased as a U.K. Rock fan but I think Britpop as a movement and the general emphasis on British rock towards melody and even tempo/rhythm just owns the U.S. and their moaning "ohhhh my life is so hard, mommy and daddy's credit card has just run out" crap that epitomizes much of grunge and punk for me, at least at face value.

England, especially Northern England is twice the ****hole that most of the U.S. is (no offense but be honest) and yet their music is much more melodic, positive, rousing, and rhythmic. Whining sissies from Seattle don't do it for me.

Then again this has nothing to do with the quality of the music. I just prefer a good melodic pop tune to an earthy distorted dark tune.

Hence the preference for an Oasis or a Vampire Weekend as opposed to a Nirvana or a Pink Floyd.

Your view of grunge is disgustingly skewed, and I recommend you actually listen to some of the music and lyrics.

I'm not claiming it's the pinnacle of music or anything, but I mean, that is not what grunge sounds like. You sound like you're describing the current wave of pop punk that's popular with girls between the age of 12 and 15.

However, your preference for the more upbeat music is entirely legitimate. I wouldn't go so far as to say that grunge wasn't "melodic", but it definitely wasn't happy stuff.

Let me clarify, I don't think that grunge sounds like that sort of stuff, perhaps my description was a bit flippant... I just think at the base of it all of this sad/angry American music is coming from people who are rebelling against an invisible antagonist. I have really no problem with Grunge, the movement, the history, and the music (and I want to hear more), I'm more just comparing the upbeat melodic nature of 90's U.K. rock to 90's U.S. rock.

I really detest most punk and metal so comparatively grunge has some classic ****.
