Riverside - Second Life Syndrome (2005)
This is exactly how I like my progressive rock. It's bold and complex yet doesn't stray into self-indulgent, technical wanking territory, and it's pretty much in a similar ballpark to bands like Porcupine Tree, Amplifier and Anathema. I'm really digging the seamless mix of heavy guitar riffs, synths, atmospheric passages and amazing vocals that are on offer here. It's moving and memorable stuff.

Kaoru Abe - Partitas - Unfinished

A two disc set of four improvisational solo alto saxophone pieces, all titled "The Well Tempered Alto Saxophone Suite" followed by a Greek symbol (α, β, γ, or δ, to be exact). He's full of shit. While his playing is a little more restrained than say, his work with Masayuki Takayanagi, it still grows to shrieky and raucous improvisations. That's not to say that there aren't moments when Abe falls into a more sultry and pleasant direction with his playing, though; there are plenty of those moments. Albums like this are what free improvisation is all about. Abe is pretty fucking good at his instrument, but his mannerisms and phrasing don't necessarily sound classically trained. It's really Abe's passion that makes this such a unique listening experience. There are solo saxophone albums by artists who are technically better than Abe (Braxton's "For Alto" or Ken Vandermark's "Mark on the Water", for example), but they never really reach Abe's style of raw emotive discharge.

Anyway, most of you guys will probably think this is just boring wankery. It's one of the better wankfests around though.

Pharmakon - Bestial Burden
This is without a doubt one of my album's of 2014. Damn this girl's vocals are great, so raw and intense. The cover of Bang Bang is an added slice of fun too!

you're kidding me? 'Rebel With a Cause' is the worst record I've heard all year. It's woeful. Ghetts takes half an album to tell you how wild and unpredictable he is which comes with much irony as his music is repetitive and generic.
The latter half of the album takes a stab at being deep as Ghett's withers on about his daughter and how he'll stop smoking weed (bad man) it has all the emotional depth of a single teardrop.
The teardrop was shed because I needed to listen to that pile of ****e.

well in fairness I haven't heard Rebel with a Cause, but I think I just really dig the overall sound on Momentum 2. Lyrics have never meant much to me anyway. I can see why one wouldn't like this at all tho; its grandiose that borders on cheesy at times (air horns and whatnot). Its also fairly busy, but that's how I like it. I dig his flow as well so I donno. different strokes I guess.

I don't know anything about this guy but Rebel with a Cause is one of the worst album titles I have ever heard.
