Really digging this right now on my first listen, what a nice surprise. I was first made aware of it when someone added it to the anticipated albums thread. After seeing it pop up some other place, I decided to check out the samples and liked what I heard. Right now, this is one of the best hip-hop albums I've heard in some time - abstract, boom bap, conscious, jazz rap. Great beats, great rhymes, awesome use of vocal samples, and minimal use of derogatory terms. The production and sample usage reminds me a lot of MF Doom and Madlib, as well as some of the more hip-hop oriented work released by Ninja Tunes like DJ Vadim, Sixtoo, and also Wax Tailor. It's really smooth and feels like a lost classic.
Gonna give this a listen, I always love me some hip hop

General Strike (Steve Beresford & David Toop) - Danger In Paradise

Pretty much the best a Residents ripoff band can be without being called Renaldo & The Loaf.

Most of KC and the Sunshine Band. I didn't think they'd be this consistently good; these guys have got talent.

This album gives me a Michael Franti & Spearhead Home vibe for some reason

I've been going through Judas Priest's discography in the run-up to Metal Month III, and though there have been some good albums I have been overall not that impressed. British steel of course I know from my other journal, but while the other albums have all been solid, none of them has really hit me with the wow factor, as it were. I thought it would probably happen, if at all, with Screaming for vengeance, but I found that, while that's a great album, there was still something missing.

Then I came across this.

Holy good **** on a bike! This is immense! Every track is stellar (bar one which is slightly not as good) and I am totally blown away by it. And yet I believe it's not that well thought of in the catalogue? Well if I wanted to turn anyone on to Priest this is the one I would use. What an incredible album! Did they reach their peak with this, I wonder? I'll find out as I continue through their discog, but for now, number one Priest album for me!

I always forget about Priest. I wore that ****er out the summer before I went into the Army (which I failed to mention in my journal). One of their best imo. You're probably gonna be disappointed with the next two albums after that one, but they pick up the slack with Painkiller.

Agree with Plankton. Painkiller is the next (and only other) good one in my opinion. The defenders tour is the only time I saw priest in concert and I still have some hearing loss I think. I still prefer Screaming for vengeance and even Sad wings of Destiny over this one I think but it is a great album.

GFOTY - Cake Mix (2015)

One of my favourite "bubblegum bass" releases of the year. She's not usually one of my favourites in the PC Music crew when it comes to singles, but this just mix/EP hits the right spot. Not overly sugary, doesn't have as many cringey lyrics and has a nice flow.

Starry Cat - Starry Cat (2013)

This is a beautiful poppy side project from songwriter Sam Ray who's other projects include Teen Suicide, Julia Brown, Ricky Eat Acid, etc. Extrmemly lo-fi and folky to me it's a companion album to the first Julia Brown album. Great songs all around.
