Had to listen to the new leaked Mars Volta album, needless to say, I ****ing love it. I have only made it to the 6th track, but that's because I usually restart it.

I hope you have rectified this by now, the 7th&11th tracks are my favs on an album full of awesome songs. the vocal melody on Vedamalady is mind-blowing.

IT CAME!!!!!

seriously i have been very excited for this one.....so far exactly what i thought it would be.....much like Spiritual Front's transformation from a sleazy misanthropic neo-folk band in to a straight up sleazy misanthropic pop band.....the last Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat album started to show a more eclectic mix into the drab apocalyptic folk....this new one is practically a perfect blend of Berlin and Death In June....seriously well done Stef...looks like i'lkl spend another year listening to your new album.....well the new Unsane comes out in a week :)

Greek bm, though it's much more similar in style to Scandinavian bm than stuff like Varathron and Rotting Christ.

The Charlottes - Things Come Apart (1991)
A very solid noise-pop album. Their 1989 debut LoveHappy is a bit scrappy and ramshackle but they almost sound like a completely different band on this album. If you dig bands like Black Tambourine, Lush or early Secret Shine you'll certainly dig this.

Circulatory System - Side 3

Tis the only CS album I've ever been able to find. I've recently been revisiting it and am reminded why I have spent so many hours searching the internet for the other releases. Solid stuff for all of you Elephant 6 fans.

I had tried this a few times before and it never did anything. Something was different this time. It's got a sweet cover too.

PS: the new pb.thal vinyl rip of this is amazing.

I edited. I thought I had a normal size image.

Syzygys - Complete Studio Recordings

Just found this band and I'm really quite liking what I hear.

It's described as "Microtuned Pop" probably because it's pop songs played using Harry Partch's 43 note microtonal scale.

The dissonance can be weird at first but you get used to it.

Their complete recordings compilation is definitely interesting... Unfortunately, I found the majority of it to be rather dated in its sound, and the album as a whole was very hit-and-miss. With that being said they definitely deserve some credit for being the first pop musicians to incorporate microtonality into their music (even though it's only with one instrument). There is also a fair amount of eclecticism, drawing from areas of music such as: lounge, new wave, various Eastern and Middle-Eastern traditional musics, flamenco, experimental music, and Japanese pop.

Would have preferred it not to be mostly instrumental, but I feel the incorporation of the violin and the involved and somewhat complex pop songs make up for this.

Through doing a bit of quick research on this duo, I ended up finding another oddity of Japanese pop music... Jon. Jon is apparently a young woman who made atonal pop in the 90s through the use of her (rather juvenile-sounding) voice and her organ... I frankly don't know what to think of her music, but it at least interests me enough to want to listen to and talk about it.

Her album, Smoke, is a lo-fi release that is mostly comprised of her singing and playing the organ (with an occasional inclusion of a banjo). It's definitely remiscent of Daniel Johnston's early work (to say the least), and there's a certain air of eeriness about the whole thing... I wouldn't say I dig it, but... I sort of like it (don't really know)

Their straightforward stoner metal has made them one of my favorite bands as of late. Nothing better to headbang to

I have currently been listening to a lot of Alesana, specifically their "The Emptiness" album. The entire album is a story, which flows fairly well and sounds great.

Love them. The Emptiness is the first album I heard from them. A Place Where The Sun Is Silent was also pretty fantastic. I love that they did a lot of the cleaner vocals throughout.

My favorite song would have to be "To Be Scared By An Owl".

How does it rate among their earlier releases? Snakes for the Divine didn't do too much for me, but I loved Death is this Communion.

I didn't listen to Snakes, but my first impression is that this thing might be their best work yet.

I don't even know how to classify this. Some great, far out, dreamy electronic stuff that is pretty damn great.

I'm digging Camel's "Mirage" album lately. Pretty good overlooked prog roch release.

David Axelrod's "Song of Innocence" is growing on me too

ok, i'll confess i hated this upon first listen, cos it really sounds mired in 80s production, it is growing on me, not exactly "ABBA from hell" as they claimed, but still pretty good:-

i also have their "1234" but it was mostly a different line-up and i didn't like that one much
