Really love this album, also one of my favorite album covers.

Ugh, the phrase 'ambient doom' fills me with uneasiness, but ultimately it's the best one to describe this monster, which is the brainchild on one of the most prolific artists I know: Aidan Baker. His noise-based material is good too, but I prefer the huge, menacing side of Nadja.

Aidan Baker is still dope.

うたかたの日々 (Utakata no Hibi)

Might be the best pop album I've ever heard. 1983! This is heaven.

There was a song from this album in my second WWWP playlist, and I finally listened to the whole thing. It's great

i feel that this record stands out from the things spacemen 3 recorded.
listened to it many times this week.
the perfect prescription from 1987.

you can listen to it on bandcamp (original record ends with call the doctor)

I love everything they ever did start to finish but I agree that album is an absolute gem. This might be predictable but here’s one of my favorites of theirs.

there are forces at play within the sonic walls of this cathedral that are beyond the mortal man's ability to perceive.

Quote:

Imagine someone stealing small bits from other genres - genres as diverse as tribal, ritual, techno and powerful rhythmic industrial. now, what if all this was added up and merged into one unique style? - Would this sound good? probably not, but strangely enough it works brilliantly for This Morn' Omina.

'7 Years of Famine' takes us into a highly visual aurora of darkness, aggression, pain, and contentment - all via lost and forgotten tribal styles of the past that are layered with present day hypnotic rhythms and dark atmospheres. each track is a part of the whole and perfectly aligned with the others. as to unfold a seven part journey into the realms of the unknown, occult mysteries, and worlds of lost egyptians gods/goddesses that have long since been forgotten.

The atmosphere slowly evolves in concise compositions that build to overwhelming complexities - from the ambivalent and unmethodical tribal percussive work of "the burning hand" and "(the) fires within" to the seductive alien atmospheres and rhythms of "currents" and "monad". the key components of mika's stylings are the illustrious undertones and diversified forms of old mid-eastern and african rhythms that are meshed with eruptive techno and industrial elements.

This complex music leaves it’s mark on you and makes you want to hear more.

The Dillinger Escape Plan

I know I probably must have shrugged off like 20 recs over the years to hear them but I finally did.

I'm enjoying One of Us is the Killer and Option Paralysis very much.

This thread helped me a bit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Metalcore/c...ginners_guide/

My time has come. You heard Deadguy? Foundational band for what DEP does.

debaserr 11-08-2019 04:51 PM

I have not. Liking what I hear so far though! Adding this to the list.

And have this too just cause it's amazing. A year before that Deadguy album and probably the most brutal metalcore album till that point, the most brutal for a few years after, and just about the heaviest hardcore record ever.

Unbroken - Life. Love. Regret.

Spotify has been glitchy. My home page was blank for a couple days. Their website said they were working on it. For me it’s back to normal now.

I'd tell you to check it, but it feels like the type of record that would fall firmly in your blind spots

Your blind spots make you a horse pulling yuppies on a magical evening through Central Park.

Why? Cheese can be fun. Cheese can remind you not to take things so seriously and just enjoy some nonsense. Cheese can be like a hot bowl of tomato soup on a cold day: not necessarily amazing aesthetically but it makes you feel warm and happy.

The Batlord 12-15-2019 05:06 PM

Or they do it in a charming way that makes you happy.

Cosa Brava
Ragged Atlas

Really solid avant-prog/rock in opposition that is to be expected from somebody like Fred Frith. We also got members from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum in this bitch so it can go off the rails a bit at times and that's what I like.

This is a great and underappreciated one.
Love that band.
The first time I saw Frith live was with them and they were amazing.

Exo 01-22-2020 02:58 PM

I need to see the Frith man play live. I don't care who the hell he's playing with.

Open & Close

Essential. They should just play this in its entirety before anything formal to get those party juices flowing. Football games, Hockey games, funerals, graduations, bat mitzvahs, weddings, I don't care.

Ludus
The Seduction

How has it taken me this long to come across this? Somebody owes me an explanation. Elph, this record might make you cool if you like it. Post punk mixed with Henry Cow, prog bands, the Raincoats, and Suburban Lawns. It's wild.

Don Cherry
Brown Rice

This is an unknown record of sorts from Cherry but one that I thought nailed every aspect of what it was trying to do. Tribal, spiritual, modal and everything inbetween. Billy Higgins is a monster on the kit too.

OccultHawk 02-07-2020 04:19 PM

I might be wrong but I thought that record is well-known among his fans.

It’s ****ing great either way. Unassailable.

I could be wrong too. It didn't have that many ratings on RYM so I assumed it just didn't click or wasn't well known.
