10-Smash by the offspring
this was the first cd i got into back in first or second grade

9-Something Wild by Children of Bodom
Whether bodom sucks now or not, that was a great CD

8-One of the Boys by Katy Perry
what can i say? im a sucker for katy perry

7-Dark Passion Play by Nightwish
It got me into new metal so yeah...

6-In a Flesh Aquarium by Unexpect
AMAZING

5-Dead Heart in a Dead World by Nevermore
makes me hate the government and i love to hate that government

4-This Godless Endeavor by Nevermore
Great CD and a great song. thumbs up nevermore

3-Holographic Universe by scar symmetry
my favorite melodic black metal album yet plus sci fi lyrics are pretty interesting

2-all sonata arctica cd's
they are all pretty much the same idea, but i love it

1-New World Messiah by Nocturnal Rites
all around amazing album

Well, I don't know. Even with prog I think there are too many repeated ideas on albums, so I'm satisfied with just the best songs on them. Usually the epics, which I feel have more thought and ideas put into them. ^^
(There are exceptions though. Frost*'s latest album only got one "great" song, and that was the shortest one; Toys. Awesome prog pop song.

1Bush(16 stone) this was my first cd i ever bought back in day, so ill start my list here. not really into them anymore.

2Metalica(and justice for all...) every riff is burned into my brain. @metalica plsplspls stop making albums.

3Sage Francis(personal journals) 10 out of 10

4Bob Marley& Wailers(Greatest hits) Irie vibes, who aint' down w/ that?

5Aesop Rock(Labor days) f.r.e.s.h.

6Blind melon(soup) R.i.P Shannon Hoon. soup was even better than the first self titled album.

7Flaming lips(yoshima battles the pink robots) this got me through so tough times.

8Perfect circle(mer de noms)everything from Maynard is gold. interesting fact mer de noms translates to sea of names.

9Chris Cornell(Unplugged in Sweden.) im burning a hole in this cd.

10Damien Rice (O)the albums name is O as in Ovaltine.

10) October Rust - Type O Negative

Probably the first "metal" band i really got into, I just love the sound of this album, the thickness of the bass / guitar sound and the way the drums crash in a semi - eighties sorta way. The song structures are great too, and its humorous, not stupid humorous, but dark humorous.

9) Terria - The Devin Townsend Band

Epic. Everything about this is Epic, whether its a rant like "Earth Day" or a reflective piece like "Nobody Here" it all has a larger than itself feel, a true sense of trascendence.

8) 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 - Midnight Oil

This may be somewhat dated sonically, but the themes and concepts in the songs are as modern as they come, plus I am a sucker for the nice thick eighties production on this album.

7) The Colour and the Shape - Foo Fighters

Still a favorite of mine on the basis of its strong, well composed, excellent songs. Really great soft / loud dynamics as well!

6) Augie March - Sunset Studies

Epic (again - I like music of this nature if you couldn't guess it already...) light on the ears, folky in places yet not lacking in weight lyrically or in terms of meaning. It's big open and all encompaqssing like the country it comes from.

5) Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - The Smashing Pumpkins

I LOVE overwrought concept - ish, double albums with all my might, and this one doesn't disappoint at all. It's got everything i have ever wanted in an album.

4) The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Genesis

As I said, big time sucker for overwrought concept albums, and this is no exception - packed with Genesis' most inventive, experimental sounding music, and Gabriel's myriad of odd lyrics, this is an instant classic in my mind...

3) Peter Gabriel 3 (Melt)

Delves into the minds of stalkers, assassins, criminals and folks who have found themselves on the wrong side of psychological spectrum... and then closes with one of the greatest anti - racism songs of all time, Biko. Classic from start to finish, strives to find new ground in terms of sound amd succeeds enormously.

2) Automatic for the People - R.E.M

So many times this album has pulled me through bad times. Its so subtle, yet intense, and in the times I need it, it even sounds sympathetic, which is often when I call upon it, when I need some sympathy music.

1) Act of Free Choice - David Bridie

Not alot of people will know this one, but its my favorite album of all time, its just got great song structure, a warmth to its sound, a great mixture of electronics, rock and ponderous, storytelling lyrics, as well as political statements about West Papua. Its imagery is so strong, and it doesn't spare a note in some sort of meaningful way... as it fades towards its end, it seems to coocoon you and uplift you and send you on your way inspired. I'd encourage anyone, anywhere to seek it out. It's that good.

Not my favorites, but most important to me.

1. Nevermind - Nirvana

This is the first CD I ever owned. That's why I can't ever review this album objectively, because it brings me back to elementary school on the bus, listening to it on a sh*tty walkman that skipped all the time with crappy headphones that actually went over your head(this is pre-earbud era, people)

2. Revolver - The Beatles

This album was like a sledgehammer in my head. But in a good way. This began my obsession with the Beatles.

3. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel

This is like Revolver in that it set me off on a completely different musical path. Also, it's my favorite album of all time. Also, it's the only album I've ever shed a tear to without previous circumstances forcing it out of me.

4. Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morrisette

The first album pounded into my head subconsciously from a parent,. It was from ages 3-8. Whenever I was in the car with my mom, she would blast this.

Has anyone else noticed how good the lyrics are on this album?

5. The Wall - Pink Floyd

This is the first album I ever deeply analyzed, and is also the first album I ever put a giant set of headphones on my head, laid on my bed and turned the lights off and just let it soak into me. Consequently, I instinctively know almost everything in this album, and yet I still don't find it boring.

6. Kid A - Radiohead

This is the most recent I've put on here(in terms of how long ago I first heard it), but this album blew my mind. I'd never heard anything like it. It was the second totally mind****ing album I've ever heard. The first I heard was F# A# (Infinity), but I like this one more.

7. The Velvet Underground and Nico - The Velvet Underground

While not completely mindf*cking, this comes close. Also, when I fell in love with the songs 'Heroin' and 'Venus in Furs', I like to think of that as the starting point for my descent into musical elitism and snobbery.

8. IV - Led Zeppelin

Goddamn son, this is some "getting me into rock and roll" type sh*t right here.

9. Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park

This is the only album on here that retrospectively I hate myself for liking. But I did. Yup, in Middle School, I was a "Linkin Park" type of person. F*ck.

That really is a great album. I think it's actually a little underrated in terms of REM albums. I have to say I don't listen to it much any more but when I do it's always in the fall. It's such a fall album.
