Why shouldn't pop bands be unique?

Well when does it cross the line from it being "alternative rock" to "pop"? As soon as it hits the charts? I always feel like pop bands are a bit bland, not much to them, I'm sure there are some exceptions. But I always felt The Smiths had that extra depth to them, the lyrics, the guitar playing.

Surell 02-12-2010 10:35 PM

I like U2 pretty good.

ABBA were great at what they did, cheesy pop.

Sometimes I have a cheesy mood for cheesy pop :D
More often I have a mood for progressive rock or metal. I really like more genres.

I think you are assuming all pop is Top 40, which it is not.

I bought a Billy Squire album because I liked the Stroke.

And I can't throw away my old Hillary Duff CDs. Sentimental value.

Mancini Scratch 02-16-2010 01:30 PM

The First Record I ever bought new from the Record Shop was...

Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney & Wings

Mancini Scratch 02-16-2010 01:32 PM

Oh Yeah...

Not long after I had Fantasies that involved both Debbie Harry and Suzi Quatro.
Not in a Threesome btw!

Overrated. Not the best song on the album, by far.

Though I have to admit, I still think they've got great songs on that album. I really regret not submitting that one for the "Guilty pleasures" comp, I still love it :/

I love this song :( so embarassing

Rickenbacker 02-16-2010 08:20 PM

There's very little wrong with the Police besides simply not being cool.

Sansa Stark 02-16-2010 08:22 PM

Hence why it's embarrassing

Me too! That bass is brill though..

OceanAndSilence 02-17-2010 06:58 PM

mates and me pump up the backstreet boys songs really loud in the car, turn the windows down, and then sing them to people when we are stopped at the traffic lights. we call it "drive by serenading"

"as long as you love me" is always a crowd pleaser.

I've done a cover of 'I want it that way' on guitar, such a brilliant song. LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR BACKSTREET BOYS!
