Why shouldn't pop bands be unique?

Well when does it cross the line from it being "alternative rock" to "pop"? As soon as it hits the charts? I always feel like pop bands are a bit bland, not much to them, I'm sure there are some exceptions. But I always felt The Smiths had that extra depth to them, the lyrics, the guitar playing.

I like U2 pretty good.

Sometimes I have a cheesy mood for cheesy pop :D
More often I have a mood for progressive rock or metal. I really like more genres.

I think you are assuming all pop is Top 40, which it is not.

Overrated. Not the best song on the album, by far.

Though I have to admit, I still think they've got great songs on that album. I really regret not submitting that one for the "Guilty pleasures" comp, I still love it :/
