Ever since watching the South Park episode Marjorine I have found this song a little catchy:
Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake

Its a song I wont put on my Zune or anything like that but I can't say I hate the song.

Gate 49 08-04-2010 07:53 PM

I like Mel and Kim and also U2
I enjoyed My Chemical Romance,Good Charlotte and Green Day live

I have seen Bros. live, I usually use the legitimate excuse that I took a lass to the gig. what I neglect to point out I actually paid cash money for their album too....possibly twice!

scottsy 08-04-2010 08:44 PM

Bros... ouch!

Ouch indeed, the singer stumbled whilst doing a spin, a truly awful show

scottsy 08-04-2010 09:56 PM

Well as awful as that sounds from a performance point of view, it would have been absolutely hilarious to see...

jtwilliams 08-05-2010 01:32 AM

I still really like Seether.

RVCA 08-05-2010 02:41 AM

ok let me explain i used to like "mainstream rap" like lil wayne, t-pain, 50 cent, (the millions of other stupid mainstream rappers that lasted about a year at most)

when i became a teenager it was as if i magically stopped being tone def, and retarded

i still listen to "some" rap, usually rap with actual emotion and soul and meaning and NOT the crap that's basically "money, sex, fame, and repeat"

Meh, I wouldn't hold that kind of crap against the genre as a whole any more than I'd hold Creed or Nickleback against rock music as a whole.

Stone Birds 08-05-2010 08:31 AM

the word "rock" has been so overused it's really hard to tell anymore what it is, pretty much almost every band considers themselves "rock" in some way, and i didn't attack the entire genre as a whole

Yes, I read that post and in fact even quoted it. What's your point in quoting yourself?

everyone who can see is atleast a little racist, no matter how much we try to deny it even to ourselves. society is organization we have an instinct to label, debate, and talk without absolutely knowing what we're saying it's a simple and pathetic part of being human.

I've been waiting to bust that out in a conversation for a while. :D

In a related note and on topic to the thread, I've been realizing recently that I can actually sing a LOT of showtunes.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-07-2010 09:25 AM

I suddenly realised something a couple of days ago.

When listening to Math Rock I have absolutely no idea what I'm listening to that makes it Math Rock.
I understand the concept about what it is if I was to read about it, but i'm fucked if I can hear it in the music.

That's my secret confession for today.

scottsy 08-07-2010 02:55 PM

Always thought "Math Rock" was a stupid label for a genre... I dunno, because all rock is mathematical in one way or another, be it counting rhythyms, time signatures, etc... so what is particularly "math" about that genre.... is it particularly loved by math students and math geeks? Does it require that the composers / musicians incorporate some tricky mathematical patterning when composing songs... are the lyrics cryptic mathematical references?

Unless those questions can be answered, this is one very hazy genre classification...

actually you're basically correct math rock is basically rock music but with some mathematical scheme, or with odd time signatures (like 5/4). or sometimes with beats that use odd rhythms. basically math rock is rock musicians showing off their compositional skills, by using math to write the song (i know kinda weird but that's basically all it is)

Wow! I was closer to the definition than I thought... thanks for the clarification though!

You mean prog rock?

Since it fits in the current conversation :

Lets see. Rock music with complex structures, odd time signatures and unusual rhythms, nope these are not traits associated with prog whatsoever.

I've never read someone's description of math rock and could figure out why bands like King Crimson and Henry Cow can't fall into the category, or even bands like Tool. The description is way too vague, it can cover a whole lot of ground and yet indie kids keep insisting on how specific it is.

Math and Post Rock is prog for indie kids. I admit I should try getting into them more, they have been hit or miss with me, they're great stuff like Battles and Godspeed. But I can't get into Slint or the more generic post rock that just drags on and on and on. Experimental music is supposed to have a sense of adventure, just making droning noise is lazy.

:'(

but I agree, Battles are ****ing awesome!

OctaneHugo 08-09-2010 11:38 AM

boo boo, if you can listen to a selection of math rock, prog and post-rock songs and honestly believe they're all the same bloody thing, you have no goddamn brain.
