Ever since watching the South Park episode Marjorine I have found this song a little catchy:
Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake Its a song I wont put on my Zune or anything like that but I can't say I hate the song. |
I like Mel and Kim and also U2
I enjoyed My Chemical Romance,Good Charlotte and Green Day live I have seen Bros. live, I usually use the legitimate excuse that I took a lass to the gig. what I neglect to point out I actually paid cash money for their album too....possibly twice! |
Bros... ouch!

Well as awful as that sounds from a performance point of view, it would have been absolutely hilarious to see...

when i became a teenager it was as if i magically stopped being tone def, and retarded i still listen to "some" rap, usually rap with actual emotion and soul and meaning and NOT the crap that's basically "money, sex, fame, and repeat" |

the word "rock" has been so overused it's really hard to tell anymore what it is, pretty much almost every band considers themselves "rock" in some way, and i didn't attack the entire genre as a whole

I've been waiting to bust that out in a conversation for a while. :D In a related note and on topic to the thread, I've been realizing recently that I can actually sing a LOT of showtunes. |
I suddenly realised something a couple of days ago.
When listening to Math Rock I have absolutely no idea what I'm listening to that makes it Math Rock. I understand the concept about what it is if I was to read about it, but i'm fucked if I can hear it in the music. That's my secret confession for today. |
Always thought "Math Rock" was a stupid label for a genre... I dunno, because all rock is mathematical in one way or another, be it counting rhythyms, time signatures, etc... so what is particularly "math" about that genre.... is it particularly loved by math students and math geeks? Does it require that the composers / musicians incorporate some tricky mathematical patterning when composing songs... are the lyrics cryptic mathematical references?
Unless those questions can be answered, this is one very hazy genre classification... |

I've never read someone's description of math rock and could figure out why bands like King Crimson and Henry Cow can't fall into the category, or even bands like Tool. The description is way too vague, it can cover a whole lot of ground and yet indie kids keep insisting on how specific it is. Math and Post Rock is prog for indie kids. I admit I should try getting into them more, they have been hit or miss with me, they're great stuff like Battles and Godspeed. But I can't get into Slint or the more generic post rock that just drags on and on and on. Experimental music is supposed to have a sense of adventure, just making droning noise is lazy. |

but I agree, Battles are ****ing awesome! |
boo boo, if you can listen to a selection of math rock, prog and post-rock songs and honestly believe they're all the same bloody thing, you have no goddamn brain.
