Stone Temple Pilots or Pearl Jam
Yeah, wondering. I assumed no one else has asked this (or asked it very recently).
I say STP. Scott Weiland is a stupid little heroin man, but he can do no wrong in my eyes, because of his awesome songwriting. And Pearl Jam's vocals make me die inside. |

Anyway, Pearl Jam made one good album and STP made zero so I'll have to go with Pearl Jam on this one. |
Definitely Pearl Jam. STP are okay, but they'll never be Pearl Jam.
|
I am voting for Pearl Jam for two reasons.
1 They have repeatedly tried to tour and do shows without the use of ticket master screwing fans out of a decent priced ticket. This carries over now to every type of art entertainment. Of coarse it never worked but the thought has got to count for something right? 2. They have A LOT more solid albums out than STP. They have always been stuck with to many fillers and such on all albums, while the Jam typically produces a solid album through and through. |
How about I troll and say that both are crap except for one STP song :D

Pearl Jam, they actually survived grunge and made some solid albums post 1995. :\

Let me tell you guys something, I know the lot of you hate Pearl Jam, a lot. But I don't know how anyone cannot at least give them some credit, they're the only grunge band (next to The Melvins) that's managed to last this long, the only band to not be forever limited by the "grunge" brand, they took their risks, they have kept their fanbase while keeping a relatively low profile, told ticketmaster to go f*ck themselves. Surely that's more admirable than Scott Weiland, other than aping other grunge singers for so long, his greatest claim to fame is simply being the guy most people first think of when "flamboyant herion junkie rock star" comes to mind. Be sure to catch the guy on VH1's Celebrity Rehab sometime in the future. |

I think I may have been gone from the music forum a little too long.

Pearl Jam IS winning.....
Its the appocolypse. Or my taste sucks by standards... |
Pearl Jam. only decent song that come to my recollection was "even flow" or maybe "last kiss".
never cared for STP. :D |

I do like Post, and some of their other singles. But that's about it. |

Although I am a big STP fan, Pearl Jam has quite an edge over STP in my opinion. Mainly because could be alot more flexible with their music. With Eddie Vedder's voice that can go from earthy to hardcore and everywhere in between and Mike McCready putting together some powerful guitar riffs they have been able to make a lot more fresh new music. Take "Drifting" and "Spin the Black Circle" for example. Two completely different approaches that Pearl Jam has taken, but yet coming from one band. It keeps me interested for sure. STP is just a little more predictable.

Pearl Jam necklace.
|
I actually like both bands but I voted Pearl Jam. I think they have a stronger and more diverse output. Granted that I'm the only person I know of who thinks highly of Riot Act.

I hear the Nirvana in "Purple", yeah. |
I have never knowingly heard a song by either group. The names of some of the more "famous" groups that get bandied around sometimes seem to have passed me by. I feel very sheltered sometimes.

The funny thing is that I do eventually hear a famous group and wonder why they passed me by. Example being Blur. Bloke I knew insisted that I listen to 13. He never usually pushed albums so I thought I had better. It was a revelation. Brilliant record. So I ended up giving a few more Blur albums a listen and found them very enjoyable to the point that I rate them highly and even got hold of Gorillaz. |

STP is on the radio all the time, just turn one on and you'll find them.
I must admit I thought Plush was the most awesome song ever when I first heard it. |

Weiland is totally living in the past man. |
I was pretty obsessed with Core in the mid 90's and still rate it as one of the best albums ever (I can't really be objective at this point, I've heard it too many times), but I haven't heard any of their other albums... I remember being really unpleasantly surprised with "Sour girl" (I totally skipped Purple and judging by Interstate love song, which I've just heard for the first time, I guess I'm not missing much). I think Sour girl pretty much put me off from exploring their other output...I just didn't want anything to ruin the brilliance of Core...:\
Edit: I'm just listening to Plush and I can't believe how much they sound like Pearl Jam. Why didn't I notice this before? Crackerman is still a kick ass song...(: |
They're both tumors on music.
|
Pearl Jam.
Easily. I don't give a damn about how anyone else here feels about them. I've been a fan for almost fifteen years, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. STP, however, I've never liked, so, you know, take that however you want. (Shrugs) |

Ha I called Core Post earlier.
Someway, somehow, I managed to get Bjork and STP confused. |
I voted STP. Lots of people that still accuse STP of sounding like Pearl Jam only heard a couple of songs from their first album and then wrote them off. They developed a pretty original, diverse sound later on and have a couple of really great songs. They have some HORRIBLE songs, don't get me wrong, but I think a lot of people didn't give them a chance.
Then again, I never got into Pearl Jam at all besides they're early stuff, so if Pearl Jam's later albums sound like STP's last three, then please inform me so i don't sound like a fool :). Also keep in mind i used to be a huge fan and i have a certain nostalglia for them, that somewhat overshadows any bad songs that they've put out, as well as Weiland's horrible personality. |

After 'core' STP doesn't really sound anything like Pearl Jam. Look at 'Lady Picture Show' for example (Their best song).
STP/Core vs. PJ/Ten Although I hate both, Ten eeks out because I dont hate EVERY SONG, as opposed to STP's first album. STP/Purple vs. PJ/Vs. I'm gonna go with STP since Purple is more solid. Vs., other than the hits is a lame album. STP/Tiny Music vs. PJ/Vitalogy This is tough cos they're both the only albums I like from these bands. I'm sticking with Pearl Jam since the song 'Corduroy' is an overlooked 90's gem (overlooked by, like, hipsters, not mainstream radio, of course) |
Pearl Jam definitely has more solid albums, but STP was a very good singles band. And the comparison between the two bands really ends after Core. I honestly could never mistake anything STP did after that for Pearl Jam.
|
Pearl Jam, by far. But, they should have stopped after 2 albums. Ten and vs. are both excellent. Elderly Woman behind The Counter In A Small Town is maybe my favorite PJ song.
|
Why couldn't it have been Velvet Revolver vs. Pearl Jam? Then this MIGHT have actually been interesting.
