I find U2's "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" pretty up there with the down feelings.
Apart from Vertigo its all so dreary.
And Coldplay, I like some of their songs but it gets too much for me, it makes the world feel colder when I'm listening to them.

EDGE 09-10-2005 09:34 PM

um.
yeah.
I did other.

Trauma 09-10-2005 09:59 PM

I went with a classical composer because there are a few that I find quite depressing.

But yeah.

1. Classical composers
2. Nirvana
3. Radiohead
4. Smashing Pumpkins
5. Alice in Chains

Im sure he was saying the band was. I think Staid is pretty depressing, couple that with the fact that they got airplay, thats kinda depressing.

sexy_drug 09-10-2005 11:24 PM

I dont see how Alice In Chains, Radiohead and Smashing Pupmkins are depressing

Are you kidding me?, ok computer and amnesiac are extreamly depressing, and siamese dream and mellon collie have some of the gloomiest lyrics ever, even when the songs sound upbeat, and Alice In Chains are one of the most depressing grunge bands, which is saying a lot. =)

boris jawaka 09-14-2005 05:19 PM

coldplay - anyone who bases all of their songs on exactly the same chord progression has got to be depressing

I really dont hear that, try grindcore or extream metal bands.

sexy_drug 09-14-2005 06:50 PM

I've got Amnesiac, Ok Computer, Mellon Collie, Dirt and Facelift and I can understand PERHAPS some of the lyrics to Mellon Collie and Dirt are abit depressing but not too much but I dont really think Radiohead are

pmorr 09-14-2005 07:36 PM

The Beatles - Elenor Rigby , hands down.

Trauma 09-14-2005 09:01 PM

^

If you know their backgrounds, hell yes it is.

dog 09-16-2005 03:47 AM

5 Favorite But Depressing Albums:
1-the cure "pornography"
2-joy division "closer"
3-tool "aenima"
4-husker du "zen arcade"
5-a perfect circle "13th step" because of an event that happened while listening

Josephine 09-18-2005 04:45 AM

Fuck, I made a voting mistake...
Radiohead for sure... They get the most optimistic people to consider suicide...
But what about Joy Division, The Cure and The Smith (-> Loves those bands!!!)???

deadkennedysmeetstheclash 09-18-2005 06:26 AM

A song I always find very depressing is -Tears in heaven- by Eric Clapton. It's about his son falling out of a skyscraper how much more depressing can you get?? I find a lot of Coldplay and Keane depressing, David Grey also make me feel really irritated and depressed. There so bad they make you feel depressed. james Blunt is also soo terrible it makes you want to bang your head against a wall or accidently push teh radio off a window sill..

Shiki Minami 09-18-2005 04:36 PM

I would say other, since I don't really hate any of those bands that much. Some of them are annoying like Eminem and his group D-12 I hate their annoying songs and vocals :shudder:. Linkin Park is my favorite band ever since I hear rock n roll music. I would like to hear those rock music group more than rap music groups and artists.

i dont consider myself a Clapton fan but i live that song

Spike*Spiegel 09-18-2005 11:26 PM

not all classical music is sad and whatnot but for the most part i think it can be one of the most melancholy genres out there. it says volumes without lyrics.

dog 10-02-2005 06:42 AM

beatles- im a loser
beatles- you've got to hide your love away
beatles- for no one
beatles- michelle

Captain Blizzard 10-02-2005 11:30 AM

A band called Beefroot and the 7 imortal cheese hags find them on myspce.com listien and cry

right-track 10-10-2005 03:36 PM

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

bungalow 01-06-2006 05:58 PM

I love that song.

Muzak Geek 01-07-2006 03:29 PM

I'd have to put Jeff Buckely on this list - I love Jeff ("Grace" is one of my all-time favorite albums), but some of his songs could push your average music listener into deep depression. Ones that are especially dour include; "Lover You Should've Come Over", "Mojo Pin", and Drown in My Own Tears"

Got about 7 versions of that song, but aside from the original, I like Marianne Faithful's version.

Anyhoo My vote goes for Coldplay and Radiohead. If your not depressed to start with, listen to these two morbid, whiny c*nts and you'll be wanting to euthanase yourself in no time.

KineticBeats 01-07-2006 06:49 PM

Richie Griffin... or 2pac...def when im depressed

holdyoualways 01-08-2006 10:54 AM

any time somebody mentions the name dashboard confessional it makes me depressed. just because i cant believe people like that bull honkey.

Imonlydancing 01-08-2006 02:40 PM

Haha.
Dashboard are pretty depressing.
I was playing Enter Shikari at school once (check them out www.myspace.com/entershikari) & some girl was like 'raarrr this is SO depressing' so she goes and puts on dashboard. Which makes no sense. at.all.
Anyways.
:]

sleepy jack 01-08-2006 02:44 PM

Dashboard aren't depressing at all, more like pathetic.

i totally agree with that.

either/or 01-08-2006 08:56 PM

also elliott smith and joy division

Muzak Geek 01-08-2006 09:06 PM

Joy Division - very nice addition to the depressing list by either/or.

And Elliott Smith… Dead on, too. I mean, c'mon, what could be more depressing than a singer/songwriter who commits suicide - by stabbing himself in the freakin' heart?!

sleepy jack 01-08-2006 09:06 PM

Hanging yourself comes pretty close.

Muzak Geek 01-08-2006 09:47 PM

very true alexisonfire - Poor Ian… having epilepsy and doing a lot of drugs apparently leads to a short life with a tragic ending.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-08-2006 11:18 PM

I think a band that makes me want to slit my throat is Linkin Park, actually now it's more Green Day.

Shooting Star 01-22-2006 02:02 PM

Jeff Buckley, especially Last Goodbye and Lover, You should've come over and Hallelujah. Really moving and makes me just a little teary-eyed.

missblueyes 01-22-2006 02:18 PM

suprized stained isn't on this list lol.

Muzak 01-22-2006 02:43 PM
