Well the genre was born here so of course, there will always be new bands taking the influences of the area. Too much post-grunge though, for sure.
Let's see in the general area we've got the following that I listen to on a somewhat regular basis: Nirvana, Melvins, Unwound, Seeweed, Jimi Hendrix, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mad Season, 764-HERO, Waxwing, The Postal Service, Minus the Bear, The Fire Theft, Juno, These Arms Are Snakes, Akimbo, Band of Horses (no longer here), FCS North, Helvetia, The Dutchess and the Duke. And that's omitting some I don't listen to reguarly: Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Rishloo, Fleet Foxes, The Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Mudhoney, Harkonen, Love as Laughter, The Halo Benders, Lync. And those are just the ones showing up in my RYM profile in the map. Then think of all the good bands from Portland just a few hours away! True. There are a lot of bums though, and that bothers me. The city is very leniant when it comes to loitering laws. I could see that adding to the seedy impression for tourists.

Tbf, I always thought it looked quite nice
But then I watched a documentary and it looked like a ran down shit hole, you can only go off things you hear and pictures you see unless you're lucky enough to go to the place. Quote:
But overall, you have some great bands. I had no idea Melvins were from Seattle. Another +1 for Seattle. You left Modest Mouse off both your lists, I hope that's because I mentioned them earlier |

Lol at 764-HERO. I think I had learned that before I moved here, and got a good laugh when I saw the signs. Been meaning to check out Murder City Devils, and have heard a bit of Supersuckers, intend to hear more. Not sure why they didn't show up on my RYM map. Not familiar with Sun City Girls.
Public transportation...ugh. It's indeed frustrating, but I've been using it exclusively - in addition to my bike and feet - for over a year and haven't murdered anyone yet. Had a big long rant about it on another forum Monday though. I can't compare it to any other city though as it's the first city in which I've actually used public transit on a regular basis.

The first feline portrait you posted could be more or less right, but that was a long time ago. I think Garfield would be a better illustration now. However, despite the neurosis (not like that of a Woody Allen's role, though) and the general low mood, the "creature" keeps a little sense of (written) humour and a certain capacity for sarcasm and witty (written) comments. It's like this another song says: "Bons vivants without a life, in love with the stars' pale light, scatter poems in the night and then try to remove their trace." I don't know why, but that's the way it is.

I've never been to Seattle either but I've certainly never gotten the impression that it's a rundown shithole. The city where I live, on the other hand, now that's a rundown shithole.
