I've been voting based on influence and impact. I voted against Porcupine Tree even though they are one of my most favorite modern bands. And I voted for VU who I only like moderately.

I think it's very hypocritical how some people art voting. People who said they liked Yes voted no because "they didn't have enough impact", and then I see some of these same people voting against highly influencial artists like Public Enemy and The Beach Boys because they don't like them.

I know I'm still bitching about Yes and that's annoying, but I don't think people are playing fair.

I disagree but whatever. If people played "fair" and just voted objectively then we'd have a hall of fame consisting of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and the Who; which would be boring.

That's not true. So far the only person we've voted in I feel dosen't really deserve it is Elliott Smith.

And of those that got rejected, I think Yes (and maybe Public Image Ltd) were the only ones that should have been inducted.

Objectivity doesn't mean only voting for the most popular artists. While I think Beatles, Zep, Floyd and all those deserve to be inducted, I also think more obscure artists are also worthy of induction if they have the impact and influence.

Elliott Smith didn't actually get inducted though. So really your complaint just comes down to the fact Yes didn't get nominated; which isn't surprising seeing as they've never been popular here.

Sorry I made a mistake.

But Zeppelin didn't get inducted either, looks like I have something new to rant about.

On influence I'd have to let him through, and usually I would, but he's just so freakin'dull and every song is the same!!! So No.

Seems to me that there are severe double standards regarding the HOF. Many people who don't like certain bands have said no and that's all fine but when bands they like or admire get negativity it's a shit storm. Everyone should be entitled to their own choice regardless of what others think. quite a few said no to my rec: Pink Floyd without decent explanations. Didn't bother me. It's about a choice. Robert Johnson is possibly the most influential musician on modern music. Would he get in? Would he balls. Because within the MB listening criteria he isn't heard all that much and therefore not deemed worthy. it doesn't mean he isn't important. It's a reflection of MB and it's difference to other generic forums.

Although it would be extremely painstaking I think this should be restarted with stricter criteria

Same goes for someone like Laswell... Has been involved in music for yonks, has so many albums accredited to him somehow, was huge in the NY underground/avant garde scene and has pushed the careers of some huge modern day players. But not well known still. I mean some might remember his name here and there from a Buckethead or PiL thread but overall there is no chance of him getting through, simply because most don't listen to him. Not saying they will like him of course.

And in the end if I nominated him, I couldn't give a damn if he got in or not. T'would be nice, but in the end of the day, it ain't my choice alone.

Re:Jackhammer's post, I doubt this would be an issue Boo Boo if Yes had gotten in and Berry was likely to get in clearly (ie 21-7 ratio)

Ditto for Jah Wobble too who has worked with Bill Laswell.

An improvement to my idea of having a recommended album added to the nomination so peeps can check the artist out:

It's a good idea but a week isn't enough hindsight to properly delve into an artist and decide their fate HOF wise. Howabout i start announcing who shall be nominated next as i receive them so people can prepare with some listening, and i'll provide uploads through PM?
