I've been encouraged by the last few nominations i've received, we seem to be veering away from 'sacred cows'...

I feel like I've been struggling to get my point across recently.

Nominations are great and I think its encouraging but you know they're going to get the no votes because people don't listen to them. I think we should require votes to be accompanied by a post. You know? Say something.

As I said prior, I don't care if bands are voted out, but understanding why people are voting no creates something to work with.

Well it's an induction thread after this but after that i'll start being a bit stricter, if you haven't heard anything by them then i'll take that as you abstaining.

I think i'll also put a point of reference in with each nomination, the album to start with.

I was probably being a bit hyperbolic but I think there's a certain point when a genre is so far from where it came from that expecting fans to worship where it came from is ridiculous. Particularly when the fan has almost zero interest in rock music until the mid-eighties.

Like I said before, I respect your opinion. You don't have to "worship" anything you don't want to, I'm just trowing things out there for your (and anyone else's) consideration.

Subjective opinion effects my votes somewhat but I mostly think about the impact and contributions of that artist, Berry has done more for the development of rock music than, well pretty much anyone.

I'm not a huge Berry fan either, but this is a bunch of inconsistant bullsh*t, at least half of those who voted against Yes getting in were people who liked Yes but (stupidly) thought they didn't contribute enough to rock music to get in, and now Chuck Berry risks not making it for the exact opposite reason?
People understand the influence, but the thing is, we just don't want to listen to Johnny B. Goode. If you're going to argue this than why isn't Mozart in our HOF?

People should stop listening to music because it's influential.

I don't know that he'd get enough votes. Or maybe he would because people think some Beethoven is actually Mozart.

Does anyone actually do that? Giving someone a listen because they influenced other music you like is a good way to explore music but if you're still interested after the first listen or two then you're listening because you like it not because it's influential.

I listen to Chuck Berry because I like him. But he belongs in the hall of fame because he was extremely influential.

Probably not but you'll certainly hear it endlessly in arguments for why you should like them. Even that isn't a big issue for me because i'm guilty of that myself from time to time but the music comes first, hence why i said no here.
