Glad to see this thread wasnt just a waste of time. :) |
Ok, I'm sending an album to RezZ first since he opened this very interesting thread (not to mention that I'm already a fan of Weekly Music Trading Post :)). I'm not really sure what's the range of your taste RezZ, but it's obvious you like stoner rock. If I'm not mistaken you also like psychedelic, space and kraut rock? So I'm sending you the first album of this 'avant-progressive' French band from the 70s, Lard Free (that I recently discovered myself).
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Lard Free - Lard Free (1973) Very interesting album, a blend of progressive rock, jazz, kraut rock and a further proof that France had a rich scene in 70s. I'm not sure how far from your taste this is, but I hope you'd find it interesting. |
Thanks mate Iv got some free time now so ill check it out once its done legally downloading ;)
|
dankrsta....could you please send that my way also?

The Wild- Set Ourselves Free
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6EKf8MpLlp...824143_350.jpg For the Bob and the Folkslave because I think they'd really enjoy this album, upbeat, fun folk-punk with great male/female vocals. |

Lard Free - Lard Free (1973) Well this was extremely odd and seemed to have almost no song structure and at some points just noise. BUT I really liked it. Dont forget I listen to Buckethead like its a religion and bands like Sun that are just walls of noise. My favorite track was probably 12 ou 13 (the short version) as it had a good deal of guitar noodling. I can tell there clearly well trained talented musicians making a off beat jazzish type album. Thanks Dank, I didnt go in with much confidence but after listening I really enjoyed it. After I listen to some more Goatsnake i shall give it yet another listen. Ps: I read on last fm where the name comes from and thought that was kind of cool. |

Jaakko & Jay - War is Noise
http://hangout.altsounds.com/geek/ga...akkoandjay.jpg This one goes out to Charlemagne. Jaakko & Jay is a Finnish folk-punk duo. |
^Why thank you, I've heard about these guys but never picked up their album. I look forward to hearing it.

If anyone feels like sending me something I will love you forever. :D

It's a dub album, made by Fin Greenall, who most people know as Fink, the singer-songwriter. What alot of people don't know is that he started as a DJ with Ninja Tune records and ended up recording an album with them which was electronic/chillout/dub-ness, before he went and recorded his next three albums doing his singer-songwriter thing. This is his side project called Sideshow, which is basically him going back to his electronic roots, and doing a much better job of it than his earlier attempts, in my humble opinion. Anyway, I hope you get some enjoyment out of it! |
For the Folkslave
http://www.dominorecordco.us/images/.../heartland.jpg Owen Pallett - Heartland I know you're a big Arcade Fire fan, and Owen Pallett actually writes and arranges the string sections on all three AF albums, as well as plays occasionally with the band. His solo work is based around the violin, and he plays parts and loops them to create a bit of a one-man orchestra. Heartland is really lovely, and if I had to compare I'd say it's part Arcade Fire, part Sufjan Stevens, and honestly, I thought it was better than the Suburbs this year. |
Pedestrian sent me
http://www.chartstats.com/images/artwork/28659.jpg A nice indie psychedelia album with some dream pop qualities. I've actually been listening to Cocteau Twins, School of Seven Bells, and some other bands under the dream-pop umbrella with little success. This seems to be a good bridge to the genre... it's pretty accessible with several infectious and easy-to-enjoy tracks like "Hudson Line" and "Goddess On A Hiway". I'm not really eager to compare them to Flaming Lips like many others, but maybe that's because I'm not super familiar with the Lips' work. Anyway. Thanks brooooooo |

I'm sorry for dodging rules slightly, feel free to delete this if you please, but I was just wondering if there's anyone who isn't really into Sonic Youth who'd like to give them a listen? I was gonna make a playlist of one song from each album in chronological order and upload it somewhere so you could download, so it'll be16 tracks. So yeah. Anyone? Let me ken!

this choice was perfect for the "spirit" of this thread....as this is just out of my "comfort" zone....but i think you may have accomplished getting me really interested in folk-punk with this album and the link you sent also....seriously thank you!....what a great label! this is a perfect example of the progression of good punk rock music....the lyrics are witty, fun, and even a bit political...without being out right preachy....the music is fun, upbeat, and eclectic....i also feel that if it were heavily distorted it could probably rival some of the faster "punk" bands out there.....i'm on my second listen now and i've the little heart button at least four time.....thanks man! |
I sent khfreek
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4uk4Z5bjRB...ones%2Bby-.jpg by- Bygones It's a poppy math rock album. At first listen, I didn't like this album at all, but after giving it another chance, I realized there are a lot of underlying rythms and whatnot, which might be his type of music. I'm not sure. I saw a few math rock bands on his lastfm, and figured I would give this a shot. |

Thanks, jackhammer. If anyone wishes to send me something feel free, by the way. |
for Unchained Ballad:
Thrall - Lifer http://cdn.7static.com/static/img/sl...277586_350.jpg yuo have very eclectic charts...i did notice that you lean towards some pretty political music....Thrall was a short lived band from beautiful Kalamazoo MI...i can't really describe what they sound like....it's pretty unique stuff.... enjoy |
nonsubmissivewife I shall have your Admit one up soon. I listened to some this morning and will finish it tonight. Sorry!

for Charlemagne
Kiss The Anus Of The Black Cat - Hewers Of Wood Drawers Of Water http://images.plixid.com/imager/w_30...e6751bff1f.jpg i know i have some stuff that you would love....but since we are trying to help people explore other types of music that they may enjoy or respect....i'm going to to the far right field with this recommendation :) first off...i have a strong respect for your taste in music...although i may not always like the stuff you post....i love checking out the things you post...you just have a great ear and i respect that so Kiss The Anus Of The Black Cat a part from having a very silly name is a very complex and multi genre band from Gent, Belgium...although if i had to classify them i suppose i would call them neofolk.....this is a bit darker than what i feel you normally listen to and probably a bit slower....but if anything i think you may be able to appreciate the meaning of the music and the talent of the musicians..... good luck :) and to Janszoon: Celan - halo http://www.rocksound.tv/images/uploads/celan300.jpg although i am almost positive you will like this....it is a kind of super group with members of Unsane, Einsturzende Neubauten, and Oxbow....so think of those three styles all mashed together |
If anyone could send me a good jazzy Hip-Hop album, that would be cool.
