Those are all journals. I've never read any journals and suspect that only hard-core members do. I mean discussions in the music forums.

Franco Pepe Kalle, I think there are many Canadian artists who have been very popular there but without much success in America. For example, Tom Cochrane.

It is a part of the music forums.
In fact the whole point of the entire MB Reader section is that it's the elite discussion part of the forum & the most heavily moderated area.

If you're not going to that section then you hardly have any right to complain about lack of discussion.

That's where all the good discussion happens though, and you get to learn what members like, so you're missing out. It's your fault, really, for not paying enough attention.

Stop complaining and actually do some posting in the music section yourself. There is plenty of discussion going on.

That's not my idea of "plenty." Besides, most of the active threads are mediocre and have been going on for a while, and I've already contributed to the few I found worthwhile.

It's sad that, in this section, a Canada-USA thread might have the most potential among the ongoing discussions. I guess I'll wait for anyone who wants to make an interesting comment about Canadian music/musician characteristics.

You mean like this, from the first page.

Canada is kind of funny with their perception of themselves from a cultural world view. We know it's pretty hard to compete with the US for cultural influence, so instead we try to make it a little easier for people to gain cultural fame within our own borders. For example, the Government of Canada gives out grants to developing musicians in order to help them get studio time (I don't know the exact specifics of the grant) and it seems all the band has to do is mention that the album was helped funded by that grant. There's also the Canadian Radio Content rule, which dictates that every 10th song played on a music station be a Canadian band. It creates funny situations wherein bands like The Tragically Hip are legends in Canada, but they play at a dingy bar in San Francisco on a Tuesday night.

I'm much more partial to the legacy of "American" music than Canadian music. I don't think that says much about any shortcomings in Canadian music or anything, but the US wins with sheer volume and development of various genres that I hold dear to my heart. It almost seems like an unfair comparison to me but I suppose there will be people on both sides of the argument, so who am I to say! Maybe a lot more people than I think have an inherent love of Canadian music like I do with many kinds of American music.

Also, I don't really care for Tim Hortons. Maybe that makes me biased.
