Album title: Humanz
Artist: Gorillaz
Genre: Electronic/R&B/Hip-hop
Nationality: English
Release date: April 28
Position in Discography: Fifth

Familiar with this artist? I've heard one album
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Not really
Average RYM Score: 2.57
The one Gorillaz album I listened to didn't impress me. This has an interesting mix of hip-hop and soul, with some electronica. Second song is very Daft Punk, but overall I'm a little both overwhelmed and bored at the same time. Too many, again, guest singers – Danny Brown, Grace Jones, Pusha T, De La Soul – hard to sort it all out. All right, I'm halfway through now and it hasn't got any better. Think I've heard enough. I hate gorillas anyway.

Check out more from this artist? No, I'm done with them now
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Maybe

Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Yeah, right... SO many subgenres!
Average RYM Score: 3.19
Well I've got to say, I'm half way through this and it's about the most generic rock music I've ever heard. I have no idea why all those genre tags are being used, because the closest this is to for me is probably alt-rock or maybe post-hardcore, and pretty boring at that. He is legend my ****ing arse. Honestly, I'm ready to bail, but there are only four tracks to go so I'll stick it out, but this has been a real, not ordeal but not fun time.

Check out more from this artist? No way
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? HaHaHa!

Some really good blues on this album; the opener, “Drinkin'” is a delight and “Love Ain't Enough” is like something Robert Cray might play, with the addition of a really nice soul vocal too. “Slide” is a beautiful track too; really reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on it. Great orchestration on this. I think this album is a great example of quality over quantity. There are only eight tracks but every one of these are fantastic; I've listened to albums with twenty or more that I wish were shorter and that contained some real garbage. Not a second wasted here, and I actually wish there was more to listen to. Superb.

Check out more from this artist? Oh yes
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes

Album title: Sad Clowns and Hillbillies
Artist: John Mellencamp
Genre: Rock/Americana
Nationality: American
Release date: April 28
Position in Discography: Twenty-third
Estimated Rating:

Familiar with this artist? Of course
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Some
Average RYM Score: 3.00
I only owned the one Mellencamp album, back when he was calling himself John Cougar Mellencamp, and that was The Lonesome Jubilee. I got it after I heard the song “Paper in Fire”, which was a single from it. I don't recall it being a bad album, but I don't recall it being particularly good. This one has much more a country feel to it than that one did; though the likes of fiddles and harmonicas seem always to have been associated with his work, even back then, in 1987, this seems to lean more heavily on the acoustic side of things than did that album, which was much more a rock album. It still has plenty of teeth, but there's a reflective, almost plaintive mood about the music. Sort of reminds me of a cross between Springsteen's Nebraska and Steve Earle's El Corazon to a degree. “Grandview” is the first proper rock song, and features Martina McBride; oddly, perhaps, it's the first one I kind of don't really like that much.

It's pretty good but I admit to feeling a little bored. “All Night Talk Radio” sounds really like “Pink Houses” slightly redone, and “Sugar Hill Mountain” is frankly awful. “Sad Clowns” sets the seal in **** on this album. It's just got worse and worse after a half-decent and hopeful start. Maybe Mellencamp should think about giving it up. I'm sure he won't though.

Check out more from this artist? Doubt it
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yah

Mellencamp = 1/10
Springsteen = 1.2/10

Rethink your life.

Just because I'm being dismissive doesn't mean that I'm doing it without reason. You openly admitted to liking Mellencamp. Rethink your life.
