The Shins used to be a really good band. Chutes Too Narrow is one of my favorite LPs of the millennia. Something happened to them later though. Maybe James Mercer had too many projects going. The Tennis track isn't bad.

That's a whole lot of genre tags! Discogs even insists there's jazz in there, but I'll wait to see before I add that one. Sounds very blues/gospel so far anyway. Track four has bluegrass tones, all pretty good so far. As it goes on though I realise I'm not as engaged as I thought; it's a little – I don't know, dreary maybe? - but it is good music. Definitely heard no jazz in there though.

All right then, by popular request let's return to some of your picks for February that are

Decent pop album with some elements of shoegaze maybe, though I do find it hard to maintain my interest. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just kind of, bland and a little uninteresting. Sorry.

First two tracks sound very similar, nothing special here. In fact it's pretty terrible. I'll try to last to the end out of courtesy, but I think it'll be a struggle. Okay, “Glass Teeth” is good. Maybe this will get better. Or not. It just got exponentially worse. If this wasn't the penultimate track I would be bailing right now. Bloody awful.

Album title: #LO4080]
Artist: Strange U
Suggested by: Qwertyy
Genre: Hip-Hop
Nationality: American
Release date: February 10
Position in Discography: Debut
Fear Factor: High
Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No
Average RYM Score: 3.28
Good start; a little simplistic initially but it comes together. Like the synths and the percussion; even the little blips are good. “Shots” is pretty cool, as is “Cimmerian Shade”, and it's funny how when he's singing “Grizzle” in the song of the same name it sounds to me like “Burzum”! Ah this is just great. Qwertyy picks yet another winner! “Mr. Kill” is another brilliant track, though I could do without “Taurus”. Great album though.

wow, didn't expect that. pleasantly surprised. he's actually from the UK. not sure if you've caught any of the MF Doom worship that most of us (Frown, Goof and I in particular) tend to do, but Strange U is more or less borrowing from Doom's mold.

What Qwertyy is saying is that you need to upgrade and get down with Madvillainy.

Hmm. Do tell. I did love the guy's humour.

I'm just taking the opportunity to throw shade at the knock off.
