The band's just jacking themselves off when they say afrobeat. It's pretty straightforward stoner rock.

And following on from the first Moldovan artist earlier we have the first Malaysian artist in this list. Nice orchestral opening to the first track, a restrained ballad , the second track is more uptempo and ethnic, and includes a rap by a guest artist who is totally unknown to me. There's a lot of passion and drama in “Segala Parasaan”, but perhaps too many ballads here. Not a bad album by any means, but hardly essential. Interesting, certainly.

Check out more from this artist? On balance, probably not

I like “ET”; I specially like the line “The last thing anyone should hear is get down on the ground” (or some variant of that; I can't remember) and “Finesse” is very good too, but they're kind of peeping out from the vast majority of pretty standard tracks here. Not that they're bad, just not standing out, at least to me. “Xantastic” is also a decent song; like the melody/sample/whatever, kind of trap but not really. A lot of the later tracks are actually quite annoying though. “Avalanche” is an exception, but overall not very impressed.

What a strange accent: sounds like a Yorkshireman or something, but he's Australian. Hmm. Decent stuff, and apparently if you've seen Riverdale, Suits, Valor or Shadow Hunters you'll have heard the opening cut, “Waves”. I haven't. It's all right, but is it anything new or particularly interesting? No, not really. It's okay, but rather than being the same kind of different it's more the same kind of same. Angsty teen pop. Yawn.

Decent enough I guess. “Born to Lie” stands out a little, “On the Charts” is not without its charm and “All the Dead Girls” is good fun. I suppose if I had to pick a standout it would be “Don't Let Me Love”: that definitely has potential. But overall, not terribly impressive for a debut, and while I wouldn't be averse to hearing their followup, I wouldn't exactly be waiting with bated breath either.

Okay. Okay, not bad. “Watery Shreds” reminds me very much of Mostly Autumn, and there's a country twinge to “The Cat Trapped in the Wall”. Real sense of Texas in the bouncy “All Things Combined” and I like “Sniper in the Balcony” too. A half-decent album with a lot of good songs, some very good ideas, pleasant singer and a kind of laid back feel to much of it. I'd probably listen to it again.

Oh just what I need: a Swedish boyband! Wonder if the FO stands for what I think it ... nah, suppose not. Well, no prizes for guessing what you get here. Justin Bieber discovered them. Need I say more? Sounds quite American really; whether that's intended or not I neither know nor care. Catchy stuff mostly but pretty generic, lots of goddamn autotune; the ballad “Hurt Like We Did” has a lot of Marc Cohn in it. Other than that though, it's what you'd expect: garbage music for oversexed teeny bopper girls.

Very pleasant; two ladies singing in a very folky style (don't really hear the punk side of things, at least not yet) with a nice mixture of uptempo rocky tunes and ballads. Very jangly guitar too, which is always good. The first time I hear the music get anyway raw and punky (and not very much, to be fair) is on “She Goes By”, and it's kind of the only time really. Nice little album. Like it.
