He is but I reckon he's been lacking for about a decade.

If we dispense with labels, and we just talk about the bands, it is amazing what commonality could be found instead of the constant belittling of supposedly passe' genres. The first line of the guitar solo in "Alive" at 3:39 is Ace Frehley's first line in the "She" solo on Kiss Alive at 3:00.
If there is so much commonality then why hate Grunge? Why complain about it? Wouldn't music from 90s be an extensions of music you already like?

That guitar solo is just playing in the Blues scale. Nothing so impossible technique-wise going on there to write home about. Mike McCready's solo is about the tone when he plays, not so much the difficulty in what he is playing. And it's not all Ace's. McCready's solo also adds a little Jimi Hendrix into it too. Plus it's not even originally Ace's either. That solo can also be traced back to Robby Krieger's solo to Five to One. And Robby probably picked up a thing or two from other guitar players around at the time too.

Pearl Jam - Alive - Guitar Solo

"She" Middle Guitar Solo: KISS Alive! Ace Frehley

The Doors - Five to One (guitar solo)

80s Glam is still more Metal than today's Metal.I love both Metallica and Motley Crue. Back in the 80s/early 90s Metallica and Motley Crue were both throwing a party and you could only go to one which would you go to? metallica's party would be getting drunk and high with a bunch of sweaty guys but crue's party your getting drunk and high with chicks and getting laid. Thrash is just another sub genre of metal. Glam is straight up metal while thrash was speed metal. Faster isn't always better that's why Metallica biggest album Black sound was closer to Motley Crue.
Compare Motley Crue, Poison and Winger to Pitbull, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, etc. Enough said. Don't complain about commercial metal. The commercial **** of today is a billion times worse. At least people required some ability to sing, play guitar, drums, etc. when it came to glam metal. In modern commercial music, hip hop/EDM crap, all you need is a ****ty meaningless bunch of words (as long as they are catchy) and a simple hip house beat produced by some random person who usually goes uncredited. You would give your left nut to hear Motley Crue on commercial radio again and you know it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykBuPBISvUM
