yes, you and about 5.9 bilion other people are not impressed by some bands, there are however a couple of milion coldplay, travis, keane, bloc party, interpol, the bravery, the arcade fire, the killers and other fans out there that make them popular in spite of the other 5.9 bilion .....

i'm bitching about you being overly negative not about peoples opinions ( just yours )......and hookers has better taste in music then you

I`m not negetive about peoples opinions at all , I say what I think of a band & thats it. If anything you`re the one who is negetive about MY opinions seeing you`ve done nothing than bitch about them.I`ve given plenty of examples of me not being negetive. Want some more? OK here you go
I said I was wrong about The Arcade Fire & that I rather like them
I said the Kaiser Chiefs have a few good songs
I said the same about Franz Ferdinand
I`ve constantly praised The Mars Volta
Ditto And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
I`ve praised The Ravonettes to high heaven
I`ve said that I Like British Sea Power
I`ve said that I like the Little Barrie album
I`ve praised The Black Keys
I`ve even said The Bravery have a couple of good songs & the I liked a couple of the Killers songs until they were overplayed on the radio & I got sick of them
I`ve said that Hope Of The States are one of the best new bands i`ve ever heard ......ALL newish guitar bands from over the past couple of years. Is that enough for you?

Hookers has better taste in music than me?
Personally I don`t care what Hookers listens to , thats up to him. When you say has better taste do you really mean 'likes more bands that you agree with? '

See how easy it is to resort to stereotypes when judging someone , if you don`t like it being done to you then don`t do it to me

Are you correlating popularity with talent? Think about that for a second, that's a bit naive.

Music journalists on popular magazines and websites really sold the f*ck out of the new wave revival, so people ate it up. Even if you specifically don't feed off their reviews, the rest of the world collectively does. Most of those bands received enormous amounts of attention from those journalists, and music outlets and fans bought every word of it, whether or not there was actually anything there that was done before or was anything special to begin with. Even if you hate the 80s, it was the original 80s and 70s new wave movement that those bands were inspired by to begin with.
I understand you defending one of your favorite bands, but don't you find it a bit ironic that more than half the people who contributed to this thread haven't even heard of more than one Pavement song? It is ironic, because Pavement receives just as much attention from indie enthusiasts from the same sources that praise Interpol, except Pavement have nearly 10 years as predecessors. Whether or not that matters, you have to admit it's a bit funny (funny, as in sad) that Interpol is popular enough for people to not even care who the other band in this topic is. Try this on for size: 90% of the time, I talk about bands that people don't even bother to care about on these boards, how do you think I feel? You're defending a band to what seems like the death, and you have plenty of people(to say the least) on your side.

listen, i just think we should agree to disagree, i just can't understand how you can think that, granted these new wave bands are getting more exposure throught the media which means that a lot more people are able to get to know their stuff, but the popularity of the band depends on weather or not a lot of people like the music after hearing it...i get the feeling that you think that people listen to certain bands because some magazine told them they're really cool, my opinion is that they might check them out ( which is the case with me ) but if they don't like the music they won't listen to it , if a band has sold a couple of milion albums that ( in my opinion ) means they're not total crap, sometimes i say that a certain band is crap but i do agnowledge the fact that a lot of people like them and i don't think they shouldn't sell as many albums ( like you seem to think about certain bands ) because that falls into the category of musical taste and musical tastes can differ quite a bit and are essentially undebatable...( it's a bit frustrating when i can't get my point across )
( i can so see urban jumping in here to contradict me..to save you the trouble, yes, i know i have debated peoples taste in music, yours in particular, but that's more for the sake of an argument, if it sounds good to you that's fine with me....)

Yeah but all 3 of us are basically saying the same thing in the end- we all have our opinions, let's live with it.
I'm not sure if I'm trying to say those bands don't deserve fame and fortune, I just feel there are plenty of other acts out there that deserve more (for example, adidass I think you would agree, why aren't more people talking about Aqueduct? or the Faint?!)

yes, i would have to agree, but i just get the feeling that urban has this "i'm sure they suck" attitude and is far too judgmental when he listens to new bands, and i think you aren't, that's all....
and why DOESN'T the faint get as much exposure?! their type of music seems to be really popular at the moment....what can i say, there's always going to be certain bands that will fall through the cracks, i never would have heard of the black keys if it wasn't for a friend of mine that's really into the blues, they will never be as popular as the white stripes but i think that has something to do with their managers and them selves...

Thats how I am , I`ve done the whole listening to something time & time again trying to like it far too many times & quite frankly I don`t see why I should. If I hear something I like then i`ll praise it. If i`m mostly hearing stuff I don`t like , or don`t like the sound of why should I bother with it.

One of the reasons I post is to balance things out , if I see a thread asking opinions on a band I don`t really like & most people in it are praising them i`ll explain WHY I don`t like that band.

You keep saying that I say the same thing over & over again , and thats usually because there is a reason for that. It`s because the points are just as valid for one band as there are another. The lack of originality right now is almost painful.

It used to be that i`d be able to pick up a magazine or listen to the radio to find something new & original. But since the death of John Peel & the mainstream absorbtion of everything that calls itself indie thats no longer the case. And quite honestly I don`t have time going through hundreds of obscure bands to find one I do like.

I still discover plenty of bands for myself but not all of them are new, in fact over the past 6 months i`d say none of them were. I`ve recently been discovering old music such as Soft Machine & listening to a lot of old Hawkwind , Talking Heads & The Pretty Things. If I started a Soft Machine thread how many people do you think would respond to it?
Virtually none , simply because they`re not the current indie darlings that you only ever seem to post about. So before you criticise my tastes and my reasons for posting look at your own.
