His playing when at full force reminds me of Colin Stetson and the way he transitions reminds me of Sun Ra. The Chinese cassette presentation adds even more intrigue. Nice one.

Why aren't the other 12 Supersilents on their Bandcamp? I tried finding some of their earlier material not too long ago and iirc I couldn't.

Meteorological Interlude - Johan Berke Upstairs Five plays Weather Report by Johan Berke Upstairs Five

https://johanberke.bandcamp.com/albu...weather-report

If youíre in the mood for some Weather Report but want a little change up in exchange for the quality of the real McCoy this is whatís up. Itís passable for sure but itís not like my Weather Report records are worn out. In other words, I donít see where the interpretation thatís supposed to draw me to this is. Itís still pretty good though. Like if I saw this band playing in a hotel bar I just stumbled into Iíd be like hot damn. You know what Iím saying unless youíre lucky enough to live somewhere that actually has decent jazz on the reg. In America, thatís not you unless youíre in Brooklyn.

To get a jazz gig in the US, you're only allowed to play this song

Theme
Piano Solo
Theme
Horn Solo (repeat until each horn player gets a solo)
Theme
Drum Solo
Theme

Or you can bring in your girlfriend and have her spit on Nina Simone's grave.

Tyshawn Sorey - Pillars

Iím just checking this out. I think itís just out today.

This guy has a hell of a resume. He played on Roscoe Mitchellís Bells for the South Side which is my pick for 2017 #1 AOTY.

Spotify says this is over 3 hours so I guess thatís got me covered until supper.

Damn. 3 78 minute sections. Heís asking a lot of his listener. Just got through it. Itís interesting and incorporates various strains of the avant garde but damn thatís a big ask when it comes to time.

Tonus - Cagean Morphology

https://newwaveofjazz.bandcamp.com/a...ean-morphology

This band released three records yesterday but I decided to focus on this one. As the name implies itís an extension on the musical philosophies of John Cage. Not saying itís in the same league but it could be a sequel to John Cage Meets Sun Ra. Extremely sparse with long stretches of silence between the notes. Even though Sun Ra doesnít often really sound like this if I had to stretch far enough to find roots in jazz I would say itís in Sun Raís knowing when not to play. More firmly rooted in 20th C classical and specifically as stated John Cage.

Ammonite by Jason Mears

Very cool. Psychedelic free jazz. Like Pharoah Sanders jamming with early Pink Floyd.
