as far as the blog thing is concerned, i knew right away that it wasn't going to work, first of all, i don't know about you, but visually, the blog is just very unapealing, second, the link for it is situated in a place where most people never look, and thirdly, what ever we have to say about music and news about music is done in the forum....

politics and film/television subforums would have more threads and posts in them than the folk forum because there's a hell of a lot more things to discuss in them.....

as far as the international music forum, it was a bust because you're all assholes and narrow minded pricks who wont listen to anything that isn't in english, 60% of the threads in there were made by me......

Thank you adidasss, yeah I don't really see what the problem is with whipping up sub forums. I can't imagine their using java to make them.

A new admin is a bad idea, who else would pay for the forum? Also I agree this is a music forum and it does seem like people come to post in the lounge and boring forum game threads. I think sub forums will help because maybe their could be intelligent dicussion outside of the music forums for once.

Simple idea.

Make a political thread and see what happens. It gets five replies and descends into a slanging match, then there's really little point it having its own forum, but if it gets three pages of thought provoking, challenging replies, then it gives you much more evidence to present the moderators with than a thread like this.

But from your "rebuttle" to perfection... I'd be willing to wager that you'll have trouble keeping your replies free of personal insults.

There have been tons of political threads. Anything concerning the city (or polis, from the greek meaning city state) is political. I mean, to make a statement like that you'd have to have disregarded you total lack of knowledge on the lounge culture just to go for the insult.

I don't care if you want to insult me thats fine, but when your "suggestion" suggests you don't know the material in front of you, you might as well have just insulted me. That suggestion just looks like a weak attempt to stay on topic.

As for my responce, PTS came in here to be a whiney bitch. "I just odn't think it will work" isn't even an arguement, its an opinion. One that has no factual basis and one he's clearly wrong on. Sure, people do go into political threads and say "Bush sucks" but since the majority of people in those threads actually said something about the topic, off topic spammers are few and far between. Im sorry PTS is mad no one said something nice about him, im sorry you and your friends don't like me. But when I attempt to progress these boards and you do nothing but try to tear it down because you don't like me, well you hurt the boards in general, the people who come here and your own reputation.

Im willing to put down the sword, can you? Slag me in the threads where im being a jackass, fine, but not when im workign to make it a better place for conducive, intelligent conversation.

Come on now, you're attempting to have a new forum opened and anybody who has a differing opinion to your own in this very thread you've jumped on like a kid who's been asked to share his toys.

Posting in an aggressive manner isn't going to impress anybody.

And the suggestion I made was simple, but it would work far better than a thread like this. Make a political thread in the lounge, and see how people respond to it. Even if they aren't on everyday there is never more than two or three pages of new posts. Anyone who doesn't bother looking back two pages probably won't have anything interesting to say anyway.

arguments are started because of differing opinions. you stated your opinion, and i stated mine. im not particularly against it, i just think that there is a good chance that a politics forum might not be an especially popular forum.

and as for the comment about me being mad that i am not mentioned in some of the "popularity contest" threads........i could give a shit less. i dont care if people mention me or not. all i was stating was that its a bit odd to know that for the time ive been here....which is about a full year, that some of the people who barely have 100 posts are recognised by the rest of the forum and i am not. i didnt come in here to be a whiney bitch. i came in here to express my opinions formed by my observations of the rest of this damn forum. if you cant agree with me that quite a few of the forums here are not very active, only getting posts every so often....then youre missing something. this is the way i feel about what a politics forum would turn out to be like. it would eventually become filled with threads like "100 reasons why bush sucks" and other stupid game threads filled with posts by a bunch of oblivious kids who only dislike the president because its the "cool" thing to do....or it would become dead because of lack of interest. its my opinion, based and backed up by my observations of this forum. i think that if you looked at a few of the forums here....you would see that that in itself carries at least some factual basis.

i never once said i didnt like you. in fact its the exact opposite. youre one of the few members here who i actually do like. and if i made it seem like i was trying to "tear down" your suggestions, that was not my intent. i was just stating my opinions on them. my opinion is that the forum you are suggesting would, and again this is only what i think....would not do much to progress these boards. if you believe otherwise....thats perfectly fine...i respect that, and i dont mean to make it seem like i dont. so if you have that much faith in a politics forum...then by all means, do everything you can to get one up here. and hey, maybe im wrong, maybe it will be a success and what i am saying right now is completely wrong. but...whatever. everyones opinions are wrong at some point.

this has happened before, and yes im guilty of it myself. someone pleads for a new forum, some one gets a new forum, it dies on its arse? i could envisage a similiar fate for this proposed one but hey, give it a bash, whats there to lose?
