Hunting

I think hunting is disgusting.

Whether it is like fox hunting for sport, or like shooting for 'food' I think it is all wrong.

How many of you agree that it is wrong?

Trauma 07-19-2006 08:01 AM

I voted no, unless you have to hunt to survive by eating everything you kill, then it's not wrong.
Oops I mixed up my words, I meant to vote yes. Then unless.
But it's ok.

bruise_violet 07-19-2006 08:11 AM

There is no need for it, we have shops these days.

MURDER JUNKIE 07-19-2006 08:53 AM

I have no problem with hunting in areas which need it, there are a lot of areas in Canada where towns are over run with wild animals making a nuisance of themselves. In Northern Canada there is a real problem with bears getting into people's garbage and chasing after kids etc, in my area the deer are a pain in the ass and can get in your backyard and do a ton of damage.

The herd needs to be culled or we will simply be over run with animals, at least hunters are using 100% of what they kill

Barnard17 07-19-2006 08:55 AM

****, I clicked yes before I realised you were including hunting for food.

If you're going eat what you kill, where's the problem. It's better than buying from a slaughterhouse, because shop bought meats you can't guarantee the conditions they lived in. If they lived in the wild you know that you're getting prime cuts, and that they haven't lived in a **** hole all their life. Unless of course the animal population that you're hunting is dangerously low.

swim 07-19-2006 08:57 AM

I think for the mere sport it's wrong but if you're actually gonna eat it there's nothing wrong with that. I mean wild animals atleast get roam around before they die while chickens and cows are pretty much born to die. So I think hunting>going to the grocery store.

bruise_violet 07-19-2006 09:04 AM

Well I don't eat meat, so of course I think the slaughter of any animal is cruel.

I don't see how it is OK to kill an animal sa long as you 'use' it, it's still going to die a horrible death.

MURDER JUNKIE 07-19-2006 10:24 AM

If a deer got into my backyard, dug up my gardens, gored out my windows, and ripped down my fence. It would die a horrible, horrible death anyway and I wouldn't use any of it.

Same goes for bears, up north they tend to like children. No contest, the bear dies before the child.

bruise_violet 07-19-2006 10:25 AM

I believe that is the fault of humans, towns are expanding and the wildlife have no where to go.

BlueEyedSuicide 07-19-2006 10:32 AM

So, you think we should cull the human population as opposed to the animal?
That is stupid.

An animal is an animal.
Yes, they should be treated with the respect they deserve.
But I am a human.
It is an animal.

Who outranks who is not a difficult decision.

That was the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard.
Or seen.

BlueEyedSuicide 07-19-2006 10:39 AM

That's your opinion I suppose.

But an animal is an animal.
Granted, I have grown up in a hunting community.
We don't kill them and giggle about it or anything.

I don't agree with the whole, hunting is cruel and wrong and it's all mankind's fault.

Did I say that?

I meant that animals are living closer to humans, because the humans are expanding towns

Humans are animals.

I voted yes.

Fox hunting in England was horrific. And now that it has been banned, badger hunting is the latest thing.

They set dogs on them, and watch them fight. The dogs get dreadful injuries but the owners don't take them to the vet for fear of being caught, as badger hunting is illegal. How the **** is this right?!

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-19-2006 10:58 AM

Food chain

Raine 07-19-2006 11:14 AM

Hunting for sport is wrong.
Hunting for food is ok.

it depends. If there's a large number of say deer roaming around then go ahead shoot it. They'll reproduce wants mating season comes along.
And most countries/areas have ways of regulating hunting so that ane ntire species isn't wiped out.
In the case of deer specifically, I know that in PA they have something called deer tags. Tags tell you what you can shoot. The most deer tags are usually for bucks, unless one particular year there seem to be quite a large number of doe then there'll be more deer tags.

MURDER JUNKIE 07-19-2006 11:23 AM

That is the way it works in Canada as well.

It really has very little to do with the towns expanding, its that the animals are becoming more domesticated

bruise_violet 07-19-2006 11:25 AM

I don't really see how people only care about a species being wiped out. Oh no, there will be no pretty deers for us to look at!

Think of the pain those animals go through. Each individual animal. Maybe The deer that got shot a few seconds ago somewhere had little babies to look after.

ZeppelinAir 07-19-2006 11:27 AM

around here they actully exstended the season due to the high number of accidents due to a deer, though the season is longer around here, we still have more deer then ever.

swim 07-19-2006 11:27 AM

If people don't hunt deers a lot of the times they die of starvation because there's not enough food for all of them. I rather die in hours than a long drawn out process.

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-19-2006 11:27 AM

Think of my poor cat that`ll starve if I don`t buy it fresh meat.

I don't know about that. I think there's something in the water cause I've been seeing some rather tough pigeons lately, and seagulls miles off from a shore or any body of water.
If anything a lot of animals are becomg less domesticated and more violent. The day I shoot a pigeon and still makes an attempt to flap its wings, something is wrong.

ZeppelinAir 07-19-2006 11:31 AM

no matter what happens to the animal it will be eaten by somthing, be it when its fresh, or when it rotted, eventualy somthing is bound to eat it, it is just a matter of when

sleepy jack 07-19-2006 12:18 PM

Hunting for food is fine, if I were to eat meat i'd rather eat i fresh then the way meat at the stores & shiz is raised.

Think of all the pain an animal goes through living its life in a cage being forced to fatten up so it can get killed. The way it gets killed, and the sheer disgustingness to the whole process. Personally I think if you're gonna freak out over animal rights hunting isn't the first place to start.

I don't like the idea of eating flesh so I don't eat it, but meat is a good thing to have in your diet and in reference to the whole animal-town-human thing, urban pretty much summed up my thoughts with food chain.

Well one man up North showed me pictures of him on top of a dead bear. He shot the bear and didn't even check with the RCMP because it "trespassed".
That's just stupid.
I don't know if this is a reply to that quote really.
But it's a statement.
